Prosecutors did not charge Tejada with lying about allegations concerning his own steroids use.

Instead, they accuse Tejada of giving false statements to Congressional staffers about his conversations with another player about steroids and human growth hormone.

It was the time of the alleged "conversation", not purchase. Tejada is being charged for misrepresenting a conversation, not an act. That's a bit of a stetch, to me. How do you prove beyond a reasonable doubt that a conversation took place? And if so, why do you care that much?

Ironic how lying to Congress is a punishable offense but lying in Congress is seemingly a requirement for the job.

I've generally been impressed by the MLB Network so far, but last night they were talking about how serious all this is for Tejada, specifically noting that it's a felony. Today the Chron says misdemeanor (http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/sports/bb/6257316.html). Who to believe?

Even if 14 million became available, there isn't anything exciting left in free agency with regards to short, third (maybe Crede if healthy), or starting pitcher.
Have to turn to a trade, but then you are coming in from a have to get something done perspective so you're looking at taking it up the arse there as well.

I have no legal background but I'm making a logical connection with the Feds getting their hands on the test results and Tejada's plea deal. Much of this is based on the quote below:

A friend of mine told me that Clemens sat a couple of rows over from him at the UT basketball game Tuesday night. Had a hat pulled down low and unshaven and said it appeared he was sort of using his kid and a couple of other teens with them as "shields." Friend also said in prior years there would be a line of people by his seat throughout the game for autographs. Not a one this time.

I remember they threw together this filing in Texas pretty quick. It's probably pretty sloppy. They were hoping to keep the case out of New York. Original petition

Noe, what is Clemens' reason for wanting to keep the case out of New York? Is it just that he thought he'd get a better hearing in Houston?

Also, the only piece of the Houston lawsuit that remains intact relates to a conversation between two people who have both previously testified under oath that what they discussed is true. Beautiful.
