One of the best American writers of the last century, no doubt.

Phenomenal essay on Ted Williams by Updike here.  Funny how much of a controversial figure Williams seemed to be in Boston at the time; time heals all wounds, apparently.

My favorite writer.  The Rabbit books should be required reading.  If you love language, you owe it to yourself to read a lot of Updike.
