Cubs take a dump, trade DeRosa
« on: December 31, 2008, 04:02:16 pm »
To the Indians for three minor league pitchers, two of them relievers. The signed Aaron Miles to a two-year deal as well. They're also planning on trading Marquis to the Rockies for Luis Vizcaino (that one's not official yet), and they're expected to sign Milton Bradley to play right field.

The way I see it, that's one damn valuable player they just shipped away. I'm pretty pleased to see him leave the NL. Thank god for other teams having limited resources as well.

It looks more like they are clearing salary and collecting assets to pick up Peavy.

The dreadful image that you describe seems entirely likely and may have happened last year (I can't find the link).  I must add that this is your most coherent post.  Cheers.

The dumping continued today. They traded Marquis to the Rockies for Vizcaino.

Chicago says this is just one step in the plan to get Peavy,

From the Sun-Times:

Quote
Productive innings-eaters such as Braden Looper and Tim Redding more likely would fit the Cubs' needs.

Well, Redding did pitch 182 innings last year.  OTOH, he had the highest ERA of anyone with that many innings.

It was the admixture of Redding and productive that flummoxed me.

Redding pitching for them would probably get him the Cy Young.

I was just looking at baseball-reference.com, and I had forgotten about his 2005 Yankee stint: 1 appearance, 1 GS, 1 L, 1 IP, 4 H, 4 BB, 2 SO, 6 R, 6 ER.

Well, if he could've managed 182 innings that year, he was on pace for 364 K.
