Nice to see that guy close the door on the Dodgers. Here's hoping he gets the final strikeout in the World Series.

Pat Gillick just gave a large part of the credit on the Phillies WS appearance to Ed Wade for building most of the club.

Nice to hear praise for Wade. I'm hoping it's a Rays-Phils series so one of wheeler or lidge will get a World Series ring.

Wouldn't it be an interesting series to get McClain's take on: to see the players Wade developed take on the team Hunsicker has built.

Ironic that Pallilo would be (even in jest) be mentioned in a Brad Lidge thread and that the mention would be about some sort of gloating that he was right.  Maybe it was intentional, and if so, then the brilliance of such must not be overlooked and deserved a good round of applause.

I wanted the Phillies to lose the game just to shorten the void, but, once Brad came on the mound, I couldn't pull for anyone else.  As always, a class act in the post-game interview.  Couldn't be happier for the guy.  What a season.

Yep, I have no use for him.  And I completly agree with all those congratulating Lidge and Bruntlett.  While it goes completely against the grain for me to root for the Phillies, I could not help but wish Lidge and Bruntlett well.  They are good guys and I'm thrilled for them.

One thing about on-field reporters is that they have a earphone on that is linked to a producer.  Often, an on-field reporter that is not your seasoned veteran on-field person will take the lead from the producer.  You'll get stuff like "Ask him about..." and the reporter will usually comply.  Rosenthal is not an on-field reporter, he's a journalist (or should be), so he got hung up in the moment and just may of listened to his producer instead of going ahead and doing the job of interviewing a guy as he would normally do.

Ken Rosenthal is not your usual on-field type, so he gets a bit of reprieve but overall whoever thought it was good television to hit Lidge with the "given your history..." question was just looking for the next Pete Rose moment.  That's television.

Thanks Gerry.

I'm very happy for Brad Lidge, but the redemption talk makes me chafe. Redemption my ass!

54 pitched well last year. He had a 3.36 ERA, allowing a mere four more hits and four fewer strikeouts in 2007. If he was perfect this year, he was damn good last year. His performance this season for Philly shouldn't surprise those of us who actually watch Houston Astros baseball games.

And fuck you Rosenthal.

The thing you gotta love about Lidge is that no matter how hard the media tried to turn him into Donnie Moore, Lidge rose above it and spoiled their fun.

Screw the media. Just once I would love for one of the media guys to state Pooholes is 4 for 17 with a double against Lidge instead of 1 at bat in the playoffs.

As I read your reminder, I couldn't help but wonder if the Tanked Commander was working the producer's booth that night and might have suggested the questions.

Sillinness aside, a tip of the cap to Brad for not going Roy Williams on Kenny.  Brad's final, "I don't care about all that crap," had me laughing out loud and applauding, even as my kids were advising me, "Daddy, he said a bad word."

Wow, another reporter badmouthing the Lidge trade by pointing out what a poor offensive year Bourn had. I'm not saying it was a terrific trade for the Astros, but has everyone forgotten that they also got Geoff Geary in this trade? Who had a pretty damn good year himself, and unlike Lidge was not in the last year of his contract. Yes, Eric Bruntlett was in the trade too, but so was Costanzo, who was used to get Tejada. A lot of these same reporters have claimed that Ed Wade didn't let other teams know Lidge was available, but as we can see from this article, that's not the case- he simply wasn't being offered the prospects he wanted from teams like the Mets. He had certain needs for the Astros and he tried to fill them as best he could. If Bourn doesn't pan out as a starting CF/leadoff type then the trade was uneven, but not a complete bust because Geary was pretty damn good for them.
