Austin(ish) Watch Party: UT Game, Sat @ 7
« on: October 15, 2008, 07:59:58 pm »
With the Missouri/UT game being at night, we're setting up our 20' outdoor movie screen to watch.  Anyone in the Austin area* interested in joining?  Drink some beer, cook up some hot dogs, work out the details of a Peavy trade, and watch what should be a great game.  Next best thing to being there, and about $150 cheaper.  Any references to Palin are strictly prohibited.

*Fair warning, we're actually in Leander, ~25 mins from downtown

Huh?

I'd go if I were within driving distance. I'd leave both Palin AND income taxes at home :)

Huh?  I'd live there if your meter weren't broken.

Does every guest get a bowl full of rocks?

No way I can make it this time, but thanks for the invite. Nice setup you got there.

Damn, very nice.

I splurged and bought tickets a few rows up from the field, around the 40-yard-line. Absolutely can not wait until Saturday night. It should be a hell of a game.

Exactly $150 for me.

Sounds like a good time!

wow! great setup.

Thanks!  It's been fun putting it together.  The frame is mostly just pipe from Home Depot and the screen is just an ordinary white painter's tarp.

SWEET!  Which projector do you have?  I'll be at the game, otherwise I'd have loved to have been there.

It's a BenQ.  That was the hardest part.  Finding a projector that could throw a long distance that didn't cost a fortune is a bit tricky.  None of the consumer level products market themselves toward outdoor theaters (so you have to do quite a bit of a deep dive into the specs to figure out which models will work) but I bet they will soon.  Now that projectors in general have plummeted in price, doing this is not that difficult/expensive.

The funny thing is, 20'x10' is already absurd, but you know I've been figuring out how I could make the frame even bigger...

And, yes, Halo on it is awesome.

Which BenQ out of curiosity? I just ordered a W500 but haven't set it up yet.

Independence Day.  It was our 4th of July party

Do you recall the strip club scene?  Neither did we.  The kids sure enjoyed it, though.

No doubt we'll do it again.  Already looking ahead to UT/A&M and the Texans' MNF game.

Sign me up, too.

Maybe a late night showing of Showgirls?
