TS Marco

Thought I'd pop in and point those interested to a curious weather anamoly.  Tropical Storm Marco, in the far southern Bay of Campeche may well be the smallest tropical storm in recorded history.  It's wind maxima radius (basically the eye) is 3 miles and tropical storm force winds extend out only 10miles from the center.  That's less than a typical bow echo line of thunderstorms down there in Texas.  Basically, this thing is only 2x larger than a supercell thunderstorm and the "eye" is only 4x bigger than a large tornado.  The satellite presentation of the storm is that of a small cluster of thunderstorms.

Only peering into the storm with microwaves (and other remote sensing instruments) reveals a typical warm-core tropical system structure.  Micro-storms like this historically have caused some serious localized damage.  Because they are so small (and are moving relatively small amounts of air around) they can spin up and down very quickly.  It's a good thing this particular storm will run ashore in the next 6 or 8 hours.
Another trenchant comment by a jealous lesser intellect.
