Because I am an idiot, and a owroker wants to know...

She has a built in wifi on her laptop, a regular computer hooked in to the telephone line and she wants to integrate a wireless printer (that both laptop and home computer can print to).  Is there anything complicated to this scenario?  Does the home computer need to be on one of those deals where you stick the little antanae on the bak of it before this can be done...I thought that would be necessary.  New modem needed?  Any other devices that need to be purchased?  Sorry for the elementary question, but I told her that you peops were pretty damn smart when it came to this type of shit.

When you say her regular computer (desktop) is hooked into a telephone line, are you saying she uses a regular modem to access the Internet rather than an ISDN line or Cable modem?

Does this oworker have Road Runner or DSL? Can both her laptop and desktop connect to the internet at the same time?  To sum it up, you need a wireless router at a minimum.  Most (I'm pretty sure all) wireless routers let you plug in wired computers also (i.e. computers without a wireless interface card).  The wireless router lets all of the computers that are wired and not wired talk to each other.  The setup should be pretty straight forward.  Google is your friend. But it is best to figure out what your oworker already has from her internet service provider.  She might already have a wireless router from TWC or ATT.

You can also share a printer from the computer it's connected to and then connect to the printer via the shared computer.  This is how I setup my printer on my home network.  It works a little slow but it does work. Although the computer sharing the printer is a pentium III.  Probably has alot to do with the slowness. Hell, printers are cheap enough now (cheaper than ink) you can get a printer for every computer.  I picked up my last printer at Fry's for under $40.

Chances are she doesn't need a wireless router.  The printer may be using its own wireless network that she can connect with (for instance, HP wifi printers use a network called "hpsetup"), so no other hardware may be necessary.

Peripheral manufacturers typically include something called "setup instructions"... this might be a good place to start.

The 4G on my EVO is not that great, but based on what I've read Sprint's 4G air cards and the Overdrive all get better 4G reception and speed than the EVO.  Check Sprint's 4G coverage map to see what to expect in your area.  At advertised speeds - 3-6mbps - it is about as good as most DSL and basic cable connections.

AT&T won't be bringing their LTE network online until 2011.  Verizon will have LTE air cards later this year.
