Did the site go down? Did everyone get through the storm OK? Is anyone else here?

I tried hitting the site last night around 1am and it still hadn't propagated to whatever server I use, but this morning as of 6:20 a.m. it's all good again.  I am surprised how much I missed reading everybody's takes, but I don't need any recaps of these last four for sure.

I hope everybody's ok and I'm glad the site is back up.  Thanks to whomever had to make it all happen.
I'm in love with rock and roll and I'll be out all night.

I will give you a brief overview of what has happened,  I will let the others with more tech knowledge and first hand knowledge expound.

Our web host moved us to a different server which requires us to change our DNS entries on our domain name.  This happened while some of our main web people were out of pocket due to weather related issues.

Thanks for the information Duman.  I just hope everybody weathered the storm okay.  I sure don't want any recaps on the last 5 games.  Dismal.  I just hope the pull it out and start winning tonight against the Pirates.  It was good to see Wiggington back.

It was good to see Wiggington back.

I was surprised they ran him back out there on a sloppy track. I know that if I were coming back off a groin or hammy injury (I can't remember which it was), I'd be a little tentative for fear of slipping and aggravating the injury.

Glad the site is back up.  I even went over to the astros.com message board but couldn't stand the trolls and level of conversation.  It reminded me of eating lunch with a bunch of 4th graders (which I did do yesterday with my son's class).  I saw Arky posting in here yesterday. I switched spikesnstars to orangewhoopass in the url but I could not log in.  Hope everyone is well.

There's still something weird happening with me: I can get to the forums fine, but when I try to get to the home page (www.spikesnstarts.com/), I get redirected to lunarpages.com. Is anybody else having the same problem?

My Mom talks to herself out loud a lot.  She says your always in good company when you talk to yourself.  Glad the site is back up, I missed y'all.

If you are still experiencing some issues, try this:

Click Start -> Run
Type cmd and hit Enter
Type "ipconfig /flushdns" without the quotes and hit Enter

This forces your computer to retrieve the newest DNS entries from your ISP, rather than using the cached entries on your hard drive.

Cleaning out your browser cache wouldn't hurt either.

Thanks: the combination of ipconfig and flushing the cache cleared it up.

Storm damage photos from Entergy. Check out page 3, which includes a dramatic shot of a devastated Bolivar Peninsula.

Hmmm?

Conversely SnS comes back up, Astros pitching, bats and defense do as well?

I assume this is the last back-up data from before the storm, because we are missing several days worth of threads and posts in the TZ and the GZ.

That devastation looks awful.  I wish we had a before shot, because it would really hit home then.

I was matching images from here with Google maps satellite images to get a sobering before/after look.

Thanks!  Finally getting SnS on my personal laptop again.  Now if I could only get the games on TV.  I finally got home to Houston to find that everything here is fine, except Ike pushed my satellite dish about 90 degrees to the east and I can't get it back in the right spot.  DirecTV's first available appointment for someone to come realign my dish was Oct. 28th.  But I can't complain.  I have been very lucky and I know many are without power, if not their home.

I believe there ought to be a constitutional amendment outlawing AstroTurf and the designated hitter. I believe in the sweet spot, soft-core pornography, opening your presents Christmas morning rather than Christmas Eve and I believe in long, slow, deep, torture of Bud Selig.

If it's a work laptop and it resides in a Windows domain environment, chances are that the domain controller's DNS cache hasn't been updated yet.  At least, I noticed that problem here at work this morning.

Your system administrator can go in and delete the old entries (if they don't ask too many questions... fortunately I am the system administrator).  Then do the ipconfig /flushdns on your laptop and all should be well.

Good news!  I dicked around with it some more today and managed to get a signal.  So I'm watching the Astros for the first time since Ike.

Wow.  That shot of Bolivar Peninsula is incredible.

Yes, it's very sad.  We had a beach cabin on the Bolivar Peninsula (in Caplen) all during my childhood.  I have many fond memories of that place.  Our cabin had been built by a ship's captain, on pilings a good 18" in diameter.  It was basically beach front, with one empty lot in front of it.  It had withstood every hurricane since it was built in the early '60s, including Hurricane Carla, with hardly a scratch.  But from the looks of those pictures and what little footage I saw on TV, I can only imagine it must be gone, along with everything else I remember of that place.
