What is different with Roy?
« on: September 03, 2008, 02:51:15 pm »
So after his last start I feel confident in saying Roy has turned it around and is looking like the pitcher we are familiar with. My question is: what is it that got turned around? I recall Pravata insisting tht he was playing hurt despite his denials, and I tended to agree. But if all Roy needed was a couple of weeks rest to get back on track, why on earth didn't he get it sooner? I'm interested to know what y'all think is the actual reason for Roy's poor performance in the first half.

He stopped pitching to contact.

I predict that he will start next season pitching to contact, like he did this year, and last year.

I predict he will get off to a similarly slow start.

I predict that fans will wonder if he's over the hill at that point.

I believe there ought to be a constitutional amendment outlawing AstroTurf and the designated hitter. I believe in the sweet spot, soft-core pornography, opening your presents Christmas morning rather than Christmas Eve and I believe in long, slow, deep, torture of Bud Selig.

He was dropped in my fantasy league and I picked him up.

Oswalt said Monday his sciatic nerve is inflamed because he has a worn disk in his back.

Oswalt flew to Houston on Saturday and had a painkilling shot in his back and said Monday he felt "great."

"I had this one time before, and you guys (the media) didn't know about it," said Oswalt, 30, who had the condition at the end of spring training last year. "Sometimes you get a shot and it lasts a year, and sometimes it lasts three or four months and sometimes it lasts three years. You don't really know."

July 11 he couldn't get out of the 1st.  Since his next start on 7/28 he's been 7-1, the only game he lost was the shutout in NY.

And, he realized he needed a new front-end loader for the farm.

No, one day, out of desperation, he called his old friend Tim Redding to ask for advice...

Hey, Timmah's advice is going up a few bucks per hour. He won his tenth game for the Nationals.

Thank you for this. I don't know how I missed it when it was reported, but it explains a lot.

I have a plan. I'll just create a short circuit in his 'dozer battery. Who's with me? Road trip to Weir. Got any jumper cables?

That's what I meant when I wrote "dread".  He's shown a willingness to experiment with alternative treatments.
