And when he isn't he's still a solid ballplayer

At first glance I read this as "bathtub", and thought "hmm, never heard that phrase before..." I guess Ty's been carrying the tub, but the pitchers have been bringing along the soap.

I don't know why, but this post reminded of when, years ago, I'd come on here ranting about something or other after being in the bag. Coach always knew when I'd been hitting the sauce and would call me down. Thank goodness those days are long gone.

Jayson Stark

Quote
Then there's Ty Wigginton. The Astros couldn't possibly have been more interested in unloading him earlier this year. So of course, he then went out last month and hit 12 homers, tying the high by any player in the big leagues in any calendar month this year.

"Anybody could have had him," said one NL exec. "All you had to do was ask. Just goes to prove again that sometimes, when you think you know what you know, you don't know anything."

He is one of the guys I wanted us to keep.  He plays hard, can hit, and is easy on the budget.  I hope we keep him.

He also looks like Slimer from Ghostbusters, which makes me smile when I think of opposing pitchers on the mound, drippings with goo.

Looks like there are 32 stupid motherfuckers making MLB player personnel decisions - 1 that wanted to get rid of Wigginton and 31 who wouldn't take him. Fortunately, we have Jayson Stark, an undisputed genius, to tell us all about it.

Are you blaming 2 owners in addition to the 29 other GMs?

By the way, I find it very hard to believe that the Astros were as eager as Stark's source suggests to get rid of Wigginton. Maybe they're confusing him with the starting 3B from early 2007? Now, if you told me they were trying to package him with prospects to get a good starting pitcher, that I could believe.

Might you be suggesting that Stark works from some kind of Astro template and perhaps neglected to upload the Pinwheel '08 software?

Right. I can't believe that the Astros were willing to take anything in exchange for Wigginton unless someone came with a great deal. There's no other viable 3B option for a season.

I remember the seamheads didn't like him in NY and TB, but I cannot remember why.

Fuck them. Wigginton has carrried us of late. There are few ballplayers, very few, who can carry a club.
