Both girls were strong in focus and relentless in execution, but May-Treanor was just outstanding, particularly in those glorious God-sent weather conditions. As we speak, descendants of Browning are amending, Home Thoughts from Abroad to read "Oh, to have HDTV now."
Undersung highlight of the night (for me, anyway), was Walter Dix's reaction to getting moved up to the bronze....going from 5th to 4th initially and then to 3rd eventually, as tapes were reviewed & runners dq'd (almost a Johnny Cochrane there...sorry).
As his girlfriend/wife/sister/whoever jumps all over him with congratulatory hugs and praise, the Florida State star demonstrates nothing remotely celebratory, as he meekly replies, "I still lost." His reaction was beautiful in its simplicity...a polite way of saying, "Fuck third, man, I was trying to win."
It's reassuring to see that at least one man has lost sight of the Olympic ideal.
