Artest may be a psycho, but this looks to me like the equivalent of landing a #2 starter for a reserve middle infielder and 2 A-ball guys.
I believe there ought to be a constitutional amendment outlawing AstroTurf and the designated hitter. I believe in the sweet spot, soft-core pornography, opening your presents Christmas morning rather than Christmas Eve and I believe in long, slow, deep, torture of Bud Selig.

Lot's of risk in this trade.  He's a hell of a player with a Rodman like personality.

Nah, he's on the last year of his contract.  If he goes psycho, the Rockets simply don't sign him as a free agent next year.  If he stays stable, it's a huge plus.

Exactly.. outstanding trade, makes the Rockets more of a contender.  Artest will give the team more than BJax and Green would have this year.  Green has looked outstanding so far, but the bottom line is he is going to be a rookie and Artest is a top 15 player IMO.

The problem is, when he goes psycho it's not the slow burn or I'll just be a cancer in the locker room flip out.  To steal a little from the Batman thread, he trends more toward the Joker type of bat-shit crazy than Harvey Dent/Two-Face sort of crazy.  In other words, he's not just going to implode a team, he's going to spark a riot in an over-heated arena and then give you a "Who? Me?" look.

Love what he does on the court, minus one event (although that was really off the court now that I think of it).  Not so crazy about the off-the-court distractions.

By all accounts, his teammates have always loved the guy though.  I don't know about locker room cancer.  Most of his dust ups have been with front office/coaching (and with beer drinking fans), but he and Adelman seem to get along.  Didn't he offer to forfeit some salary to keep Adelman around?

Obviously, the guy has baggage, no one can deny that and he knows how to stir up the pot with management, but for the short-term at least, it should be a great move.

Bingo. I really think he'll respond positively to Adelman. This could be an awesome deal. Of course, I liked the Pippen deal at the time, too.

I can't believe Yao made those comments about Artest in public.  That's not good PR.

The Rockets need Artest, Yao should not be hostile to him.  I don't know what incidents they've had on the court, but it's time to put that aside.

Honestly, why the hell did Yao make comments like that about him?  That's not only bad PR, its not the way to welcome a new teammate.  If you have concerns about those things, ask him in a private manner.

But I think Artest actually responded in a pretty solid way, didn't blow anything out of proportion.  Damned media.

I’m never going to change my culture. Yao has played with a lot of black players, but I don’t think he’s ever played with a black player that really represents his culture as much as I represent my culture.

:-\  eh? Come on, I kinda hate that side of my culture but i definitely identify myself as a black person. Matter of fact, many black people resent the ghetto aspect because its a load of bull. Oh well though, Ron Artest can really play some basketball, Ill give him that. I dont think he had any run in last season and they really didn't give a way much unless they completely tank next season and give the Kings a Lottery pick. Though Green was looking to be a good one.

With the exception of that time he had his dog seized because he was starving it, or that other time when he plead guilty to abusing his wife with his children present, 2007 was pretty quiet. In fairness, that wasn't last season, just last year, so it's probably not even relevant now.

Like yellow cards at the World Cup, previous discretions are expunged when the next round starts.  Artest is fine.  Statute of limitations has run out.

Nope.  Only truly works for players, not make-weights.

Artest must have some kind of psychological guilt over his success as a basketball player. I'm sure there are people who live in the "ghetto" who cringe when they see him "represent." I mean there are cultures and sub-cultures. When given a choice, I would think that any sensible person would reject the notion of a group think when it has an adverse affect on the individual. But Artest is not sensible, he is at the least an immature pathological neurotic narcissist. A hell of a basketball player, though. But if you follow his pattern of behavior, add his recent "ghetto" comments, and he's still a ticking time bomb. I hope Adleman knows how to defuse him or at least set the time back for a year or so. 'Cause, by most standards, Ron Artest's a pretty fucked up dude.

Artest saying he's still "ghetto" has about as much credence as J-Lo saying that she's still "Jenny from the block".
