St. Arnold's Divine No. 6
« on: June 11, 2008, 02:42:50 pm »
...hits Houston shelves this Thursday and Friday. I'll be on the lookout for a good place to purchase it, but they're usually gone within 2 days.
Don't think twice, it's alright.

Thanks for the heads-up.  I still have 4 bottles of last year's model in the back of the fridge.  I need to try one to see how well they've aged.  Any word on the style of this one?

Thanks.  Yeah, I guess I could use Pravata's google.  Here's more info on the American Barleywine.

St. Arnold's Divine No. 6 currently at the Westpark/Buffalo Speedway Kroger.  I only saw three cases on display.  I checked the Spec's on Stella Link and their shipment hadn't yet arrived.
My sixer is currently chilling in the beer fridge.
Cool faster dammit!

I have just become familiar with the Kroger of which you speak.  Pretty decent beer selection for a grocery store.

I remember all the good times me 'n Miller enjoyed
Up and down the M1 in some luminous yo-yo toy
But the future has to change - and to change I've got to destroy
Oh look out Lennon here I come - land ahoy-hoy-hoy

Score!  There were about two cases on display at the Kroger on Montrose near Westheimer just now so I snagged a sixer.

It was at room temperature and by the time I got home I was ready for something appropriately chilled, so it'll have to wait until later.  Has anybody actually tasted the stuff yet?

Oh, and thanks for the heads up that it was out.  Otherwise I'd have had no clue.

I'm not a fan of any St. Arnold's, for that very reason.
The rules of distinction were thrown out with the baseball cap.  It does not lend itself to protocol.  It is found today on youth in homes, classrooms, even in fine restaurants.  Regardless of its other consequences, this is a breach against civility.  A civilized man should avoid this mania.

I'm a fan of every St. Arnold's, for that very reason.  This Divine, however, was a bit too much for my taste.  It didn't stop me from finishing the six pack though.

ETA: The guy at my friendly Spec's said their downtown location went through 90 cases in two hours.  They also limited the amount each consumer could buy.  I bet they had iPhone-type lines there for a while.

Beer has two basic flavor components:  sweet (malt) and bitter (hops).  When one overwhelms the other, it's not good.  I think St. Arnold's beers in general are way too hoppy/bitter.

I like the Amber and stuff on the lighter side (Lawnmower etc.), but they do get a little tough on the palate as they go darker.

Apologies if Cabrera drinks good beer, but it looks like St. Arnold is counting on your continued support.

I finally tried the #6 the other night.  It was a couple of notches below #5 (which has gotten darn near sublime with a little age) but probably better than I expected after reading the comments above.  I am not a hophead--Anchor's Liberty Ale is about where I draw the line between pleasantly hoppy and overdone when I am in the mood for that sort of thing.
