Well, we are in the same division with two lineup visionaries who bat their .240-hitting catchers 9th so that they can have a second lead-off hitter.

Home plate umpire's outside corner keeps coming and going. 3 inches off the corner is a strike one pitch then burning the outside black is a ball the next.

Berkman at 1st, Bourn at 3rd

Lee

ball, lined to left, Bourn scores, after the throw comes in Berkman decides to try for home, Howard sees him, throws home, ball beats him by about 15 feet

Dumbutt baserunning strikes again.

ETA: on further review, when the throw came it, it missed Utley and Berkman broke, Howard did a good job of backing up Utley

"Quality start" for Moeller.  Can't imagine he's going to be the one who gets DFA'd when Wandy returns.  Any guesses as to who it'll be?  Bork?

Ausmus

fouls out on the 3B side right next to the stands, Wigginton tags (although it didn't look to the announcers like he did), runs to 2B, Appeal throw to first, called safe.  wow.

Feliz on 1st.

Coste bloop single to RCF.

Men on 1st and 2nd.  Ruiz to pinch run for Coste.  Phillies have used all bench players.

Dobbs pinch hitting. Bunt is popped up foul, Ausmus misses at the screen.  Piss poor short arm there, Brad.  Brocail turns, throws to second, no one covering, throw goes to CF. Runners move up to 2nd and 3rd.  Infield comes in.  Short pop to CF, Bourn high tails it and grabs, runners have to hold.  1 out.

Victorino up with the bases juiced

ball, ball, popped to Erstad (deeper than I originally thought), throws to Ausmus, tag at the plate---OUT!!

Astros win.  Ausmus is mobbed.

Erstad had perfect form on that fly. Got behind the ball, running start, and fired a bullet to the plate. Great tag by Bid Aus. What a way to end it!

Extremely.  Ausmus tagged him in the chest just before he puts his hand down to tag the plate. Ump was behind the play.  Got the call right.

I turn on the game in the top of the ninth after a wonderful dinner, and Darin Erstad serves up the dish of the night.

What. a. throw.

The fly ball really looked like it was gonna score the tying run.  Brocail in the interview said that he thought it was gonna be cut off, they were gonna go for the tie, then he saw it go through and wow! Ausmus put on the tag.

I thought the same thing Brocail thought and was wondering why the throw wasn't cut off to try to steal an out on a baserunner trying to advance. Good thing it wasn't.

Bourn is hitting .378 in his last 10 games.  5 multihit games. He is looking multitudes better at the plate.

Well, the results are much better anyway. I never thought he looked that bad. He had a few too many strikeouts early.

For the first few weeks, I don't think he was swinging with conviction (a little timid).  I could be wrong, but lately I think he believes he can--like the little engine that could.

Gameday is annoying to link to sometimes... From the link I gave, you have to hit the "Gameday" tab in the upper left corner, then hit the "video" tab in the upper right, then click on the "Erstad turns two" button.  GEEZ, what a pain in the rear that link turned out to be...

Didn't think it could get more exciting than last night, but here we are again.

Hey, Erstad, that's what he does.

Good plays all night long.

Jose coulda pitched, but didn't want him to.  Told Brocail before the game he was the guy, he was gonna close.

Moehler mixed his pitches well, hung breaking ball to the best HR hitter in the game right now (I disagree, gotta pick Lance)

Everyone is contributing, both young guys and veterans.

When asked what was his best decision of the night he responded, "I just stay out of the way and let them play."

Made that throw plenty of times, you are just on autopilot and go.

When you have your chances off the bench, you just gotta make your plays.

You can't rely on just one or two guys, everyone has to contribute.

Says Lee sandbags a little bit, he is better than he plays off.

It says alot about the character of this team, how we come back and win ballgames. It is something that we didn't do  last year.

I'm glad to get deeper in the ball game, Coop and I talked about that before the game.

3-4? Or do you mean 3-1? Three out of four?

She's just bragging that she got to go to 4 games this week.

Was at a party at a lakehouse tonight, but I snuck inside their house just in time to see Broc throw the ball in to center field.  What happened after that... I can't even believe.  Holy shit this team is heart attack city!
