After the 9th inning 4-3 loss to the Brewers Wednesday--Piniella was asked whether he thought about a defensive substitution for Soriano in the 9th,

''You're damn right I thought about it,'' Piniella said, his voice rising. ''You think I'm stupid or something? God ... darn it. Thought. All right. Thanks.''

As Piniella stormed away, the profanities he contained while in front of the cameras came spilling out.

After Soriano's misplay that allowed 2 runs, Piniella turned in the dugout and knocked over a Gatorade cooler.

It's hard to see anybody ever really becoming the next Piniella though.

I watched that game, and Sweet Lou made an error earlier than that, and that was not sending Soriano down for a rehab assignment after coming off of the DL. No, Sweet Lou has got to manage like it is August on May Day.

The picture I get is that Soriano is not exactly the most cooperative guy and didn't want to do a rehab.

Soriano and Lou will have an explosive confrontation before this season is over.

That's a valid point, but this isn't the thuggish NBA. If Lou doesn't have control, then that doesn't portend well for Cubs fans because Pinella has won a lot more games than Soriano.

"The players" - Dusty Baker, circa 2005 when he team totally melted down in September trying to catch the Houston Astros.

And the players would've gotten away with it too, if it wasn't for those darn, meddling booth guys.

I thought that was 2004.    In 2005, the Cubs sucked.  7.5 games behind the Astros by mid-August.

And I was at all 4 games of the series in Wrigley when we swept them in August 2004.  First time in Chicago and it was a great series.  Especially the Roy-Barrett stare downs.  And Wheeler plunking Sosa with his first pitch as an Astro.

The Scrubs fans were talking noise before the first and second games.  They changed their tune by the end of the sweep

Derek Lee and it wasn't the first pitch.

It was.  And Derek Lee to his everlasting credit, tossed his bat to the bat boy, dropped his head and trotted to first.  Fine man.

(ETA) it was not http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/playbyplay?gameId=240829116

One of Wheeler's nicknames from then on was "Dot".

The exploits of NBA players and their respective posses require no further explanation of thuggish. In the NBA, the owners almost always give the players their way.
