Wasn't able to catch much of last nights game, but did like his approach at the plate earlier.

Pence: b, cs, cs, b, b, grounded out to 2B. 3 outs (Pence laid off the crooked stuff pretty well that AB, and was out on a sharply hit ground ball to 2B, who was lined up close to the bag in good position to make the play).

Top 4: Wandy pitching

Hawpe (0-1): deep liner into left, Pence plays it oddly, but still makes the catch.  1 out.
Barmes (0-1): walked on 4 pitches. 1 out, runner on 1B.
Iannetta (0-0, walk): grounder to Tejada (E6 - runner was going, looked like he was hurrying to try to make a RP).  1 out, runners on 1B and 2B.
Cook (1-1, RBI): struck out on 1-2 pitch (was trying to bunt the entire series).  2 outs, runners on 1B and 2B.
Spilbirghs (0-2): singled into CF, runner scores from 2B (unearned) without Bourn even throwing home. 2 outs, runners on 1B and 2B.
Tulowitzky (0-2): walk (Wandy's starting to look a little frustrated/pouty on the mound). 2 outs, bases loaded.
Helton (2-2, singles): b, b, fb, fb, ss (made Helton look silly).

Tejada looked horrible on that error.

Looked like he was trying to rush to make the double play with the runner going and just mucked it up.  Anyone else see the 'old Wandy' start to show up again the last inning (pouting, questioning pitches, etc.)?

I did notice how Wandy was acting, but he really impressed me with that strikeout of Helton. Somehow I can't see the Wandy of old getting that out.

Top 4: Cook pitching

Lee (0-1): flied out to right. 1 out, none on.
Blum (0-1): grounded out to 2B.
Pence (0-1): b (way outside), b (low), fb (back), singled in between 1B and 2B, great play by Barmes at 2B but Hunter was too quick.  2 outs, runner on 1B. [Pence got a steady diet of fastballs throughout that AB]
Towles (1-1, HR): bounced to Cook with Pence going on the play.

Wandy out.  Apparently a groin thing.
The rules of distinction were thrown out with the baseball cap.  It does not lend itself to protocol.  It is found today on youth in homes, classrooms, even in fine restaurants.  Regardless of its other consequences, this is a breach against civility.  A civilized man should avoid this mania.

The strikeout pitch to Helton was solid, and shows that Wandy is making HUGe strides.  Maybe it wasn't 'old Wandy' anyway, as he's out in the bottom of the 5th with a strain and Villarreal is in.

Villareal is also one that seems to be lost at times.

Top 6: Villarreal still in.

Spillborghs: deep fly to left center on 0-2 pitch (JD said it was a bit wind-aided to get that deep). 1 out, none on.
Tulowitzky: grouned out to Tejada. 2 outs, none on.
Helton: hit Helton on the back foot on a 2-2 pitch. 2 outs, runner on 1B.
Holliday: flied out to CF.

Middle 6: COL 3, HOU 2

Villarreal pitched a pretty solid inning in that one.

JD notes that Twins put Everett on the 15 day DL with the Twins (shoulder probs, MRI noted nothing).

Actually, I think the Astros have played the Rockies pretty well, especially at MMPUS.

JD or Brownie just note the Rockies are 6-20 at MMPUS.

Top 7: Geary pitching (0-1, 2.45 ERA)

Atkins (2-3, double, single, run): flied out to left. 1 outs, none on.
Hawpe (1-3, RBI): singled into right on a 2-2 pitch (good AB for Hawpe, having fouled a number of 2-2 pitches). 1 out, runner on 1B.
Barmes (0-2, walk, run): flied out to Pence on the track on a 2-2 pitch.  2 outs, runner on 1B.
Iannetta (0-2, walk): broken bat 2 bouncer to Blum. 3 outs, runner stranded at 1B.

For the first few years at Mile High and then the first couple at Coors, the Rockies had the Astros' number.  I think the Astros were their first series win at home, etc.

but memory isn't what it once was...

Bottom 7: Cook still pitching.

Blum (0-2, groundouts): lined shot over Spillborghs head.  Spillborghs makes a diving play that he snowcones and Blum is called out (great acting job).  Bullpen is saying he lost it.  Replay clearly shows he lost the ball.  Out call stands, Coop is pissed and is arguing again with the umps.  Coop is tossed.
Pence (1-2, single): stuck out swinging.
Towles (1-2, HR): flied out to the warning track in right.  3 outs, none stranded.

End 7: COL 3, HOU 2
Cook's pitch count through 7: 98 (61/37)

I didn't think it was that good an acting job.  He went down with the ball in his glove and popped up holding it in his hand.  That should have been a give away right there that he didn't hold on to it.
The rules of distinction were thrown out with the baseball cap.  It does not lend itself to protocol.  It is found today on youth in homes, classrooms, even in fine restaurants.  Regardless of its other consequences, this is a breach against civility.  A civilized man should avoid this mania.

Posednik (PH for Cook): cs, cs, b, ss (strikeout). 1 out, none on.
Spillborghs (1-4, RBI): fb, ss, b, b, b (legit pitch on the inside corner), fb, groundout to Tejada. 2 outs.
Tulowitzky (0-3, walk): b, cs, groundout to Loretta at 3B.

Bottom 8: Fuentes pitching.

Loretta (batting in the 9 hole on the double switch): popped out to Tulo behind the 3B on a 3-1 count. 1 out, none on.
Bourn (0-3, run): bunt single. 1 out, Bourn on 1B.
Matsui (1-2, single, walk): b, b, (Bourn steals 2B on the lefty Fuentes using a slidestep and a strong throw from the catcher), (Fuentes turns and acts as he's going to throw but doesn't on what looked close to being a balk call) b, cs (looked low), (Bourn looks to really be bugging the crap out of Fuentes), fb (line drive right field), (Fuentes turns towards 2B and throws this time), flied out to deep left. 2 outs, speed on 2B.
Tejada (1-3, DP, single): b, fb (straight back, Tejada annoyed with himself that he missed that pitch), flied out to left.

End 8: COL 3, HOU 2

Milo just told the radio listeners as he was going through the groups in attendance that Ron Burgundy and friends are at the ballpark.

If this signals that we are back on track with this harmless amusement then all is now right in my world.

You know, JD could run the same scam with Brown. Brown's seeming total ignorance of cultural references of any kind is just breathtaking.

Top 9: Brocail still pitching.

Helton (2-3, singles, HBP): doubled into the corner in right (Pence didn't field it cleanly or Helton would have been held to a single). None out, runner on 1B.
Holliday (0-3, walk, run): struck out on slow curve (11 pitch at bat). 1 out, runner on 2B.
Atkins (2-4, double, single, run): walked on a 3-2 pitch (pitch looked GOOD). 1 out, runners on 1B and 2B.
Hawpe (2-4, RBI): flied out to Bourn in left center (love SPEED in CF, nice run by Bourn). 2 outs, runners on 1B and 2B.
Barmes (0-3, walk, run): flied out to Bourn in right center (another decent run by Bourn the other way).

Middle 9: COL 3, HOU 2

Am enjoying Brocail immensely this season so far!

Bottom 9: Manny Corpas in for Fuentes, Nix in at 2B.

Berkman (0-3): cs (way outside corner), ss, check swing roller to the pitcher. 1 out, none on.
Lee (0-3): b, ss, fb, ss (strikeout). 2 outs, none on.
Birthday Boy (Cheito pinch hitting for Brocail): grounded out to 1B.

Game over: COL 3, HOU 2.  Cook is 4-0 lifetime vs. the 'Stros.  Getting sick of watching the Astros lose close, low/lowish scoring ballgames again (especially with THIS lineup).

Tejada, Berkman and Lee were 1-12 tonight.  Almost guarantees a lowish scoring ball game.

Given that it was a Will Ferrell reference, I think it'd go over a lot of peoples head (including me 'til the google search).

Last year some inspired genius started populating the list of groups in attendance that Milo reads each game with all sorts of fictitious names - movie characters was a favorite device. There are several spirited threads from last year dedicated to this that you could likely search up if you wanted to.

I got an inordinate amount of giddy pleasure from this and was just about crushed when some buttoned-down dickhead realized what was going on and put a stop to it. Zipp's got the lowdown on this sad episode, but the salient point is that some bean counting fuckwad woke up to the fact that Montgomery Burns probably did not have a group in attendance and apparently ferreted out the responsible party or at the very least put an end to the whole thing.

It looks like we may be back in the game!
