I wonder why Fox SW is electing to broadcast the Rangers game instead of the Astros.

Think WGN said runners were 7 of 23 (9/23?) off Zambrano over the past 3 years.

Top 1: Zambrano pitching

Bourn: cs, b, b, ft, grounder into RF. Bourn on 1B, no outs.
Pence: hard grounder past Ramirez at 3B, Bourn to 3B. 0 out, runners at the corners.
Erstad: ss, cs (outside corner), fb, fb, b, ss (strikeout). 1 out, runners at 1B and 3B.
Lee: b, shallow fly ball to left, Bourn thrown out at the plate (not particularly close, IMO ball looked to shallow to challenge Soriano on).

Sucks not to get anything out of that, but I'm OK with testing that little prick out there in left even on a really shallow fly like that one.

Who do you want there, Blum? Tejada? Erstad's as good as anyone there without Lance in the lineup. He's a solid hitter and he's got a great eye and doesn't strike out very much.

Why steal when you can just watch Pence double and end up on third?

Thought for discussion, since I really am not that experienced with this:

I have been of the opinion that Pence should be leaving an opportunity for Bourn and holding back a little. Is there a chance the manager is asking him to be aggressive, knowing that Bourn will make the pitcher try to quickly go after the hitter?

I'll hang up and listen.

That depends whether we're playing under the written rules or the unwritten rule that says the runner at second is out as long as the infielder is somewhere near the bag.

Top 3: Zambrano pitching

Backe: cs, b, bloop fly into LF by the line, overrun by Fukudome, Backe reaches 2B (no error charged). 0 out, runner on 2B.
Bourn (1-1, single): grounder to 2B, Backe advances to 3B. 1 out, runner on 3B.
Pence: (1-1, double): fb, b, b, flied out into RF, Backe doesn't challenge (not deep enough and RF has a good arm). 2 outs, runner on 3B.
Erstad (0-1, strikeout): b, b, grounder into LF, Backe scores. 2 outs, runner on 1B.  HOU 1, CHN 1
Lee: ss (Zambrano storming around because his scoreless streak is broken), b, b, Erstad thrown out on steal attempt. 3 outs.

Middle 3: HOU 1, CHN 1

Zambrano pitch count: 48 (31/17)

Perez had the ball and touched the bag with his left foot well before the runner slid in. I don't know how much more out a runner could be. I have no idea how the umpire missed that call. It was not a close or difficult call at all.

Backe looks good.

OK, follow-up then: Pence, much to many people's chagrin, has been first pitch swinging in every game this year when Bourn gets on. Are the coaches not telling him to not do this? (Are the coaches putting on the signs giving him the green light no matter what?)

OK, follow-up then: Pence, much to many people's chagrin, has been first pitch swinging in every game this year when Bourn gets on. Are the coaches not telling him to not do this? (Are the coaches putting on the signs giving him the green light no matter what?)

I have no idea, but my guess is Coop has told him to just be himself and swing away.

Specifically said that last season, I think it's implied here.  Matsui is going to go into the 2nd position when he's back.

I think that he's more than that too. I'm glad that Cooper ran him out there for the sixth, in which he was successful. Doubt that Garner would have done that.

Bourn just got fucked. These fat fuckers need to earn their money and let the game get decided on the field.

As long as you're talking about horrible calls, Brian Runge absolutely fucked Villareal on the 2-2 pitch to Lee. Just off the outside corner which has been a strike all goddamn damn and he calls it ball 3.

That was a fucking horseshit call!

Blum and Pence, 3 inches off the plate = strike.

Derrek Lee, same pitch = ball.

That was horrible.  3" on the outside *and* below the knee.
