4/1/08 Game2 Houston vs San Diego
« on: April 01, 2008, 08:17:39 pm »

Backe  looks to hold off <awesome> SD offense while Houston looks to come alive. Hopefully a run or two will come across for the H9.

Sorry..I can't wait....long winter and I must see more Houston baseball..( last night..no...)

Score some damned runs boys...

I'll be quiet now...no more talk about Fire Ants....

On DirecTV in Houston its on channel 20--it's one of my local channels.  FSN Houston is showing the Rockets and FSSW has the Rangers.  Oh, and once again it looks like no HD.  0-2 on the season for HD, but at least I'm getting JD and Brownie.

Oh, but I do have the Twins game in HD.  Everett's made some nice plays tonight.  On the other hand, the Angels' announcers seem to believe he made his major league debut last May against the Brewers.

It's on channel 77 in Austin. Currently, there's a blue screen up, with funky old graphics up saying stay tuned for the Padres and the Astros. And to top it off, there's some sweet, sweet jazz playing.

If you're in Houston, only the home games will be HD.  They have a truck and if the truck isnt parked outside the building, no HD.  No idea about people outside of Houston.

Watching some of the St. Louis Colorado game, free on Extra Innings. Lohse pitched 5 scoreless frames. A Molina homerun is the only score so far.

It is on Austin Time Warner. It's in the upper 960's to 970's even though it's listed as hockey. Free until the 6th of April, I think.

It's on my EI, DirecTV channel 726, although I'm assuming it's blacked out for me since I'm in Houston.  Or are you saying it isn't on the cable version of EI?  I know they used to have fewer channels for EI on cable, do they still?

I live in Houston, have no idea what "My20" is, but I've turned to what is purported to be the game according to my guide (channel 4). I have the audio, but only an unoriginal bar of colors to look at.

Directv has the Astros feed on 732.  I am very excited they have both the home and away feeds this year.  Plus, they used to never have the games that weren't on FSN.  Big improvement this year.  Now if only I could get this game in HD...

I love watching him play defense.  It's not like he's playing for the Cards now.  What else am I going to watch until the 'Stros game comes on, "reality" TV?

BTW, gotta love this hi-tech My20 channel.  Hardly any audio, video comes and goes, sometimes not synched up with the sound.

I switched to DirecTV 732 where at least the audio is louder and I have an equally transfixing freeze frame of the team logos and records over a shot of the outfield.

Buy it from MLB, listen on the computer (assuming there's no local coverage for you). Aren't you in Louisiana? There radio in most of the southwestern parts of the state.

this sucks.  I hate my20.  I have company and we can't watch the game.  The game isn't on the EI free preview either.

Iguchi is out.  I love you BOURN!!!!

Commercials come through fine.

Buy it from MLB, listen on the computer (assuming there's no local coverage for you). Aren't you in Louisiana? There radio in most of the southwestern parts of the state.

No I meant local Houston Radio...which I could always get on the Interweb....

Online broadcasts of MLB games is prohibited. If you want to listen online, you gotta buy the package from mlb.com.

Oh great, Bourn made a sweet play.  I didn't want to see that anyway.  Fuck it.

Amy, you've been my eyes many times.  Odd that I can now return the favor from the other side of the world (China, at the moment, watching via MLB TV).

Bourn's throw was right on the money.  It was nice to see Loretta, backing up the play (Tejada made the tag) jump up and down and pump his fist, then point to Bourn.  The talk about "no chemistry" over the offseason seems now to have been premature.  It is one of the things I noticed in the game last night and today — they seem to be actually enjoying playing together as a team.  Nice.

Me too, I just found it. I forgot about the free week of EI. I wasn't expecting to see it tonight.

EI stinks until hockey season is over (I think they showed every other Astros game for the first couple of the weeks of the season last year, hence $15 for a month of MLB.tv last year and this one).  The game is on tomorrow night though.

budgirl i just realised your popeness - congrats.  the only time i made it home last year - Julyish - i went to get some coffee and saw Ausmus was standing behind me.  i was as cool as i could be and nodded at him.  he saw the berkman jersey and asked if i was going to the game.  i told him i had nosebleed tickets but was gonna be in the centerfield bar.  that was about it but it was still pretty cool.

Pence fought it off and somehow soft-lined it over the secondbaseman for his first hit. JD says he should be running. Berkman swings at the first pitch. *sigh*

It starts in July.

The Dallas Stars have three games left this season.  I can't believe they have to wait until July for the playoffs to start.

Or is that when training camp starts for the Lightening?

Seems like "Center Ice" (hockey equivalent of EI) stopped splitting channels with EI once the playoffs started (I think the end of this week or next, as there are only a couple of games left in the season).

Backe messed around and took his atbat out to the mound.  Couldnt get the ball over and then started heaving it.

There's one thing Bagwell did tell a pitcher - he told Backe to concentrate on pitching rather than celebrating his own batting.

I've run the numbers, and when Bourn steals, the Astros do not score. I conclude that the early offensive struggles are his fault, and he should stop stealing.

How fast will it become "Bourn is distracting PENCE!!!"?

I know you're kidding, sort of, but I saw Carlos really get on Pence in ST when Pence was dancing around off 2B while Carlos was batting. First Carlos appealed to the dugout and then he accosted Pence for a dressing down after the AB (which he of course had talked himself into making an out with).

Bourn = Badass
There are three rules that I live by: never get less than twelve hours sleep; never play cards with a guy who has the same first name as a city; and never get involved with a woman with a tattoo of a dagger on her body. Now you stick to that, and everything else is cream cheese.

And yes, I know it is only the second game of the season.

Tejada misses the play of stepping on 2b, doesn't get the man at first, Berkman traps the runner at 3b.

On further review, not certain Tejada could have made the play at 2b.

Who the hell is allowed to use a flash directly behind the batter?
I believe there ought to be a constitutional amendment outlawing AstroTurf and the designated hitter. I believe in the sweet spot, soft-core pornography, opening your presents Christmas morning rather than Christmas Eve and I believe in long, slow, deep, torture of Bud Selig.

PENCE!
There are three rules that I live by: never get less than twelve hours sleep; never play cards with a guy who has the same first name as a city; and never get involved with a woman with a tattoo of a dagger on her body. Now you stick to that, and everything else is cream cheese.

Berkman renders it moot on 3 straight pitches.

Pitchers hold the opposition to a pair of runs. Another good performance from the pen. Very encouraging.

It's two fucking games.  In the best pitchers' park the game has known since the Dome.  Facing two very good pitchers.

Cut the martyr crap, it's unbecoming.

Some bad luck and very good pitchers on the other side.  As for the park, there wasn't a ball that threatened the warning track, didn't matter where they were playing.  (Well at least for the Astros, Padres hit some a long ways for outs).

Sounds like there were some good shots, but there are a lot more factors in a ballpark than home to warning track

I didn't catch the first inning.  And the second there was no vidoe.  But the park had zero effect on the Astros offense.  Outfielders as a rule were having to come in to catch the lazy flies and pops.  Loretta's smash was bad luck, Miggy just missed a double down the line and Towles was just a bit early on a line drive down the line with 2 a board.  Oh and Backe didn't swing bad call by the first base ump.  Those plays could have got the Astros a run.  Other than that, that was pretty much it.  Tip your cap to their pitchers, come out and play tomorrow.  Maddux going.  A whole lot easier to hit him then Peavy and Young.

I'm not going to say anything about bad calls going against the Astros.
