End of 2nd Inning: Astros 4, Nats 3
Will try to catch up on stats.
In the end, my dissolution with the game of baseball will not be a result of any loss of love for the game, rather from the realization that I can no longer bear the anger its supposed stewards cause to be built up in my soul. -Lee (01/08/2013)

Wind is a bit of an issue today.

Top of 3rd - Paulino pitching.  2 quick outs.
Walked Jiminez, who hit a bomb off him earlier (4th walk for Paulino).
Belliard hits an opposite field 2-run shot (maybe a tad wind-aided).
Flores grounds out to 3rd.

Nats 5, Astros 4 - bottom of 3rd

Results may not matter in Spring Training, but I think we're seeing a lot of the style of game we can expect this year.
I believe there ought to be a constitutional amendment outlawing AstroTurf and the designated hitter. I believe in the sweet spot, soft-core pornography, opening your presents Christmas morning rather than Christmas Eve and I believe in long, slow, deep, torture of Bud Selig.

HOU lineup:

Sutton 3B;
Iorg LF;
Castillo C;
Newhan 2B;
Manzella SS;
Erstad CF;
Diaz DH;
Abercrombie RF;
Ausmus 1B

Gervacio still pitching.

Kearns pops up to Ausmus at 1B.
Whitney: s, cs, b (just missed), dribbler 5 feet down 1st base line, stayed on chalk, Whitney just stood there.  2 outs.
Langerhans: b (changeup just missed), b, b, cs, b (lloked like a strike),  Walk, runner on 1st.
Moeller: s, ss, flied out to Newhan in shallow RF.

Gervacio looked pretty solid, mixed in the changeup (with the funky delivery) well.

Thats with Wandy (apparently) looking pretty good as well.  McLemore had troubles today, but for what its worth Gervacio looked good.

Wright seems to be getting a heads up on the other left handers. Clean line score today where as McLemore struggles again finding the plate.

DeJean pitching;

Rogers: s, s, cs 1 out.
Desmond: s, s, b, ss (Castillio throws to first). 2 out on 2 SOs.
DuBois: s, s, b (just missed outside corner), b (breaking ball in dirt, DuBois held up), doubled into moderately deep left over Iorg's head.  2 out, runner on 2nd).
Casto: cs, b, b (just outside), popup drops in, confusion/wind aided gift single.  2 outs, runners on 1B and 3B.
Pena: fb (big hack), groundout to Sutton at 3B.

Despite the 2 hits (1 a gift), DeJean looked pretty decent.  Worked ahead of all of the hitters.

Towles Update
« Reply #24 on: March 08, 2008, 06:15:21 pm »
ATL Note: Towles left game early with strained right hamstring.

Update on Towles

Quote
J.R. Towles left the Astros' game with the Braves at the Disney complex on Saturday with a strained right hamstring and is currently listed as day-to-day.  The catcher suffered the injury when he accelerated after seeing second baseman J.C. Holt bobble a grounder in the sixth inning.

Quote
Towles said he didn't feel any sort of pop when the injury first occurred. Comparing it to a right hamstring injury he had two years ago in Class A Lexington, the catcher said this one wasn't as bad.  Towles hopes this injury will sideline him for only a short time. "I think it will be just a couple of days, no more than four or five days," he said. "I don't know. They might try to take it easy on me, but I want to get back out there as quick as possible, that's for sure."
