Getting back to the basics is right. The thing that has bugged me the most over the last couple of seasons generally hasn't been the pitching or hitting; it's been the defense and baserunning. Bonehead mistakes and lack of the basic fundamentals in both areas has been lacking, and I really hope that the personel changes both on the field and on the bench change that.

I'm no fan of Matsui, but he's our guy now. So I'm with him. He's definitely an improvement over Burke.

He did manage to score 84 runs in 410 ABs.  Not too shabby.

410 ABs. That's part of the problem, he hasn't been too healthy- mostly his back. Apparently the Astros are going to have him rubbed down often.

My reaction to the move is similar to Mr. Happy's. I am definitely looking forward to a lot more action on the basepaths though- and a lot more 4-3's, 4-6-3's, and 6-4-3's when our guys are in the field. (not to mention the occasional 4-1 maybe).

Rueben, I'm glad that we agree. I think that if we can keep him healthy enough to keep up with that level of production. It'll beat Burke.

The Chron article today notes that the team will be paying for a full-time massage therapist to travel with the team to attend to Kaz.  Here's hope this part of the story has a happy ending.

Well sounds like there's a happy ending to this signing after all.
