This time from Bill Giles Chairman of the Phillies. He's being quizzed by Chris Freind, a reporter for the Bulletin, "Philadelphia's family newspaper".
Giles: (on Costanzo) We didn't think that highly of him. We did when we drafted him, but he hasn't progressed either defensively or in making contact. But he definitely has power---a lot of power. And he might develop, but we didn't think he was going to be an everyday third baseman. ...the guy we're going to miss in that trade is Michael Bourne. I think he's going to be a really fine player. His speed, his defensive capabilities...if he can hit .260, .270, he's going to be a real force. We really didn't want to trade him, but we just desperately needed pitching.
