Anyone read this article?

"Among active players, that list includes Barry Bonds, Gary Sheffield, Gary Matthews Jr., Roger Clemens, Andy Pettitte, Brian Roberts, Guillermo Mota, Juan Rincon, Jose Guillen, Rafael Betancourt, Rick Ankiel, Troy Glaus, Paul Byrd, Ryan Franklin, Jay Gibbons and Jerry Hairston Jr."

Looks like Alice might get a 50 game suspension.  Intresting, to say the least.

Wait a sec...you'd only get a suspension if you test positive in the present, not for getting pegged as a past user right?

It's being debated now.  Baseball (without seeing the actual list) wants to appear to be tough on crime.  The union obviously wants no suspensions because there was no steroid policy in place when the use (or purchase) took place.

Baseball has a problem in that they can't prove use, they can (right now) only prove purchase.  The union has a problem in that regardless of the presence of a steroid policy, "illegal" steroids were still illegal, and that may violate a players contract.

End result is nothing will happen, IMO.

And which player(s) can they confirm was in possession of illegal steroids?

Thanks for the insight.  I don't give two shits about these lists....except for one guy.  If he was ever to show up on one I'd be crushed.

Iiiiiinteresting that DQ decides that it's time to start fulfilling the Personal Service Contract right around the time that this comes out.

No shit. Based on the way Bagwell was talking in an interview on the radio yesterday, he will only continue (for some) to be on the speculation list and nothing more. He used the term "them" and "they" when referring to the already released and soon to be released names and I'm sure anyone on those lists already know they are on those lists. Anyway, Bags didn't sound like a man about to be outed.

Innocent until proven guilty?  Of course.  I'd like nothing more than to never see Bags name pop up on one of those lists.  I'm still leaning on the side that says he didn't use...but to say I have no doubts, well, I can't do that either.  Seeing him in Spring Training that last year got me wavering a little.

If you look at it as an outsider and not an Astros fan, Bagwell looks like a textbook example of a user.  I really, really hope he wasn't.

One doesn't need to look at the situation as an Astros fan to see the logic in, intense workout equals muscle, developing arthritic shoulder plus not working out equals reduced muscle.

The outsider doesn't know it was arthritic.

Going off my lousy memory here, so please correct if you remember this better than I.

A few years ago, when the steroid craze broke, some talkshow guys (in NYC?) were talking about how Bagwell must have been a user, as they were looking at some before and after pictures.  His wife called in and yelled at them for saying it.  She said that she and Jeff had talked about it over the years but he didn't want to jeopardize their ability to have children.

Obviously it doesn't prove anything one way or the other, but Bagwell and steroids always brings back that story for me.

Why would he want to have children with his mother?  He's not from Arkansas.

Correct.  The story was that Jeff's wife was in the Boston area visiting her Mom-in-Law and heard the show and was livid.  She told her Mom it was not true what they were saying, so Mom picked up the phone.

I think the "list" he's referring to is the rumored redacted names from the Jason Grimsley statement- not Mitchell's new list. IIRC, Grimsley or his lawyers (or maybe even the investigator) quickly announced that those names were not all accurate.
