Though he is going to begin his "post-playing" services contract with the Astros at the beginning of the upcoming season:

“Roger has said several times that he has failed at retirement, so I am not announcing his retirement,” Hendricks told the Chronicle. “The plan for 2008 is this: Roger plans to start the new year as the first year of his post-playing career contract as a consultant to the Houston Astros.

“Roger really enjoys the teaching aspects of baseball and loves his interaction with the young players.”

"Holy shit, Mozart. Get me off this fucking thing."

Cynicism warning:
So, DQ gets the benefit of using the Houston spring training to get ready for another triumphant return to New York and the Astros have to be grateful?  If I were Dennis Liborio, I'd apply a generous helping of Atomic Balm to Roger's jock strap every day.

Just swap the Atomic Balm for his Astroglide.  Two birds with one stone.
I believe there ought to be a constitutional amendment outlawing AstroTurf and the designated hitter. I believe in the sweet spot, soft-core pornography, opening your presents Christmas morning rather than Christmas Eve and I believe in long, slow, deep, torture of Bud Selig.

Every minor league guy I have talked to about Roger says he is great to work with and very helpful.  Frustrating as he may be to us as fans, he appears to be helpful with our younger guys.
Always ready to go to a game.

I think that you are pretty much absolutely one hundred percent correct.  But, the continuing drama on his part, the despicable Hendricks brothers, and Roger's butt buddy Pettitte take some of the fun out of the game for me.

That was a parody of Waldman's announcing Clemens' return to the Yankees back in May when DQ did his in-game announcement.

Waldman, who has been a close friend of "Rajah" since his Sox days, in the Yankee radio booth said this:

Quote
"ROGER CLEMENS IS IN GEORGE'S BOX AND ROGER CLEMENS IS COMIN' BACK. OH MY GOOD--GOODNESS GRACIOUS! OF ALL THE DRAMATIC THINGS--OF ALL THE DRAMATIC THINGS I'VE EVER SEEN, ROGER CLEMENS STANDING RIGHT IN GEORGE STEINBRENNER'S BOX ANNOUNCING HE IS BACK! ROGER CLEMENS IS A NEW YORK YANKEE! AND THERE WE GO JOHN, YOU DON'T HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT WHO'S GOING TO TAKE THAT SPOT IN THE ROTATION. YOU SHOULD SEE WHAT'S GOING ON IN THE YANKEE DUGOUT! BIG GRIN ON JORGE POSADA'S FACE! ANDY PETITTE KNEW, BIG-SIZE ROGER CLEMENS IS NOW A YANKEE! ATTENTION FANS! HE IS HERE, AND NOW WE DON'T HAVE TO DISCUSS WHO TAKES THAT SPOT IN THE ROTATION."

Probably set the whole women in sports broadcasting movement back a ways with that one.  Got A LOT of play nationally, and even here in New York (where DQ is only liked by Yankee media sycophants like Waldman, Michael Kay and Max Kellerman, even "normal" Yankee fans in the media didn't want him back)

I'll NEVER give those douchebags any power over my enjoyment of the game. Let them carry on until no one is interested.

One other thing about the Waldman thing that is even funnier than the actual over the top reaction, is her reaction to the backlash against her.  Instead of letting it all roll off her back by giving a "Hey I overreacted because Clemens is a personal friend of mine" response, that would have been understandable, she really took every response personally and lashed out as if they were criticizing her right to even be in the booth and that the attacks on her were attacks on women broadcasters everywhere.  In essence, she took what probably would be a nothing story after it happened, save for the "OH MY GOODNESS GRACIOUS" line being used on radio show soundboards for years to come, and made it all about her and her "struggle to succeed in a male dominated profession."

Talk about Clemens being a Drama Queen!

If she'd said "FUCK ME!", that would've been a story and soundbite!

Worst part is, she sucks. Totally unlistenable.

Putting her and Sterling together took a lot of imagination.  I imagine.
