Died yesterday.  He threw the first no-hitter in Houston franchise history.

I had always thought that Ken Johnson threw our first no hitter, but I see where Nottebart threw one in 63.

Wow.  Can't believe I almost missed this.

Thanks for pointing it out.

I don't really remember the actual game but my Dad has always told about the time we saw Don Nottebart throw his no-hitter. I only remember the hub-bub after the game, I remember confusing the term no-hitter with double-header, back then I struggled with simple things, like understanding why a fielders choice wasn't a hit. I was such a novice that the no-hitter made no impact on me but the excitement afterward is what I remember. I also remember one of Don's sons pitching against me a few years later in the Westbury Little Leagues, by then I could recall every detail of the no-hitter. RIP Don.

I also played in the Westbury Little Leagues. The Nottebart kid was a little ahead of me, as I recall. Hornets, Rams, and Twins for me.
He breezed him, one more time!

I had forgotten that Willie Mays hit #500 off of Nottebart.

Nottebart was as Astro. Nuff said.
