OK, here's something to discuss. I am in an quandary about whether to start Vincent Jackson or Joe Horn as my WR3 this weekend.

I have penciled in Jackson, but Horn could be a sleeper against a piss-poor Vikings pass defense, even with Joey Harrington throwing to him on the road. Jackson, meanwhile draws the Bears defense and is the Charger's #3 receiving option behind Tomlinson and Gates.

I've seen Jackson picked as a big sleeper.  I imagine he'll get yards, but TDs might be harder to come by as Gates and LT will take those.  I'd still start Jackson though.

Definetely start Jackson.

Do not start anyone that is supposed to be catching the ball thrown from the hands of joey harrington.  That's asking for a week 1 loss

Is that your only two options? I would take Horn, that Bears D is tough. Instead of a WR3, my league has a flex WR/RB.

Thanks y'all. In the WR3 slot, the other options on my roster are Mike Furrey and Eric Moulds, which are not good options. Jackson will start for me most every week, just very enticed by the Horn matchup against MIN. I am perfectly stumped.

This one's easy, just look to your own personal history. Think to the times that you have benched a regular starter to go with the tease of the marginal-to-abysmal offense versus the highly suspect defense. Consider the percentage of time this has worked in your favor. If you are overwhelmingly effective in your gambits, go crazy. Otherwise, play it straight, keep your pants on and start Jackson. Incidentally, five crisp US dollars says Furrey outscores Horn, unless you have a scoring system that awards a point every time Joey Harrington hits your player in the back or skips one within 2 yards of his ankles.

PS - Carefully not jinxing anything... I'm enjoying watching some obscure francophone southeastern football team stomp the hell out of some other random technical college. Nothing that would concern you, I'm sure. Laissez le bourbon roullez.

I've been thinking forever that I'd like to try beer.  This thread is exactly what I needed to motivate me to achieve this long-term goal.  Thanks, OWA!!

Actually, the seasonal Oktoberfests are out.  If I had to pick a "favorite" style, and I have no earthly idea why anyone would want to pick just one favorite, Märzens would be it.  Had some of the Sam Adams version tonight which was good but not great, and I've seen the St. Arnold's around but they didn't have any at the Kroger on West Gray this afternoon.  The best O'Fest for my money is still Paulaner's.  Yum.  Munich malt just rocks.

My favorite brew in the whole world (for the last few years at least) is the Hacker-Pschorr Oktoberfest.  Anything brewed by Samual Adams is goat piss.
The rules of distinction were thrown out with the baseball cap.  It does not lend itself to protocol.  It is found today on youth in homes, classrooms, even in fine restaurants.  Regardless of its other consequences, this is a breach against civility.  A civilized man should avoid this mania.

Talked to a guy from St. Arnold's this weekend.  They said that they had an unusually high demand for Oktoberfest this year, and so for the first time they're making a second batch.  Should hit shelves around Oct. 1 or so.

Also, I tried the new Divine Reserve (no. 5).  It's a Russian Imperial Stout, with 10% abv.  It'll slap you silly and fuck you stupid, all while tasting like sweet dark coffee.
Drinking for two.

I'd imagine it's available on the tour starting this Saturday.  Not sure if the Oktoberfest is ready yet, maybe another week or two for that one.

Regardless, grab the Divine at Spec's tomorrow.  You won't be disappointed.  Or be able to do much else if you have more than one.

Be nice... Furrey's have feelings too, you know.

So I stopped at The Pinnacle of Man's Achievement tonight and picked up some O-Fests that I hadn't tried before (or at least I could not find my tasting notes for; yes, I am that much of a geek): Ayinger, Hacker-Pschorr, and Hofbrau.  According to the Spec's website they were supposed to have others, too (Beck's, Erdinger, and St. Arnold), but three different beers is about the maximum I can taste in a night and have my notes make any sense so I didn't search very hard beyond what I found.

The Hacker-Pschorr and Ayinger were excellent.  HH, I can see where the H-P could be a favorite.  I think I still prefer Paualner, but that plus H-P and Ayinger are in the same ballpark to me.

I was a little disappointed with the Hofbrau.  It was rather thin for a Märzen IMO and was somewhere between that and a helles.  Not that helleses(?) are bad by any stretch, but it's just not what I expected or was in the mood for.  I'm far from an expert but from what I've read, the beers at the real Oktoberfest in Munich have started to gravitate towards these lighter styles (maybe somebody here can enlighten me on this), so if that's what you are into I suppose this would do nicely.

There you have it, my very own little Oktoberfest-fest courtesy of Tropical Storm Humberto and my employer being closed until noon tomorrow.  Hopefully I'll be able to score some of the St. Arnold version after 10/1 and, who knows, maybe I will be able to track down a taste of the others I mentioned, too.

Just an FYI that may or may not explain anything....as far as I know, Hacker-Pschorr is the only one of those you mention that doesn't brew a separate beer for export.  The beer that H-P ships to the US is the same beer they sell in Germany.  Most other brewers, including Hoffbrau I'm pretty sure, brew a different beer for export, modified to make the journey.  That may explain some of the "thinness" you find in other brands.

BTW:  Had a Paulaner marzen last night.  It's pretty good too.
