You've never heard of Faith Hill?  I despise country music and even I'VE heard of her.

And Kelly Clarkson isn't country.  She's American Idol pop.

But yeah, this has pretty much sucked.  The best music so far has been The Who during the Colts' entrance.

I'm as big a fan of scoring as the next guy, but as a career defensive player, that's a bit much.

The Who?!?  What year is this?  can't a major sporting event ever play any song that doesn't completely suck or isn't 500000 years old?

Faith Hill is terrible, but she is a good representation of what they pass off as Country music these days. Thank goodness for the Texas Music Revolution (for us 'necks anyway).

you are right, that went beyond suck and went straight to blow.
Here are just a few of the key ingredients: dynamite, pole vaulting, laughing gas, choppers - can you see how incredible this is going to be?

Yea what ever, I missed the opening but caught the intro.  Faith was hot on the studio created intro to the game though.

Dammit. Ear worm. I'm gonna be humming that beautiful lilting melody all day now.

Yeah, anyway, Johnny Cougar has always been a lame-ass pop star that desperately wants the kind of song writer credibility and peer approval that's far beyond his reach. Him and Bryan Adams need to team up. I'd like to see Steve Earl kick their asses.

Well, he has made quite a successful career out of the country boy middle america rock/pop genre.

Is there a decent record store left in Houston?  Other than classical?

The Soundwaves on Montrose (the part that isn't a surf shop) is as close as you're going to get.

They at least carry some local music.

Nope.  Lost its lease.

Owner said that he could have gotten a new lease, but that he was done, and couldn't find anyone to buy the inventory, IHIOGA.

Okay, strike my previous comments. I apologize if my callous remarks offended any of Johnny Cougar's fans. He's sold millions of records, so he must be a really good song writer. He has nice hair and made cool videos for MTV. Who can forget "Hurts So Good" with those bikers on Harleys? He's just not my cuppa tea and I'll leave it at that.

Hell, he's not exactly my preferred choice either, but from what I gather he does alot of benefit concerts and the like.

He had his moments.  There is a certain type of song he does -- "Paper In Fire", "Pop Singer", "When Jesus Left Birmingham", "Check It Out" - hell, even "Pink Houses" - that I like well enough.  And it makes for pretty good road music.

And I think it is funny that Ronald Reagan's handlers were so out of it, they asked permission to use "Pink Houses" in a campaign commercial, because they thought it was a patriotic song (Mellencamp refused.)  This was just after Springsteen had rejected their request to use the equally upbeat and optimistic "Born In The USA".

I am pretty sure JCM is above Ryan Adams/drivel level, is all I am saying.  But I lost a whole lot of interest in him when he decided his music should make a broader "statement".  He fogot his own best advice, to just shut the fuck up and play guitar.
