Orbit's return
« on: August 30, 2007, 08:16:52 am »
I found this in Justices Blog today.  Quote from a fan
"John,
Think outside the box. How about we get rid of that crazy looking rabbit with the train conductor uniform and bring back Orbit!"

Funny he called Dick John.   Drayton are you listen to the fans?  What have you done today to be a champion?

I don't think there is a connection.  He is just another part of the circus that entertains the masses.

I was told this once... dunno how true it is, but since it was brought up:

Ballpark = Minute Maid Park at Union Station

Jackrabbits = something regularly found in Texas

Union Jack = the British flag, so that won't work because we're Texans, dammit

Junction = something reguarly found on railroads

Hence, Junction Jack, dressed in railroad overalls and cap.
And, by the way, f*** off. --Mr. Happy, with a tip of the cap to JimR
Y'know, either you're a fan or you aren't. And if you aren't, get the f*** outta here, because we are and you're just in the way. --Ron Brand

Yep get the connection with the ball park and railroads, just a stretch to have a rabbit.  Orbit is an astronaut for God sakes.  He could wear train overalls.

P.S.  I really don't like Orbit, just seeing if I can start a campaign to get him reinstated.  Drayton listens to the fans after all.

I second that.  Was Chester Charge really a "physical" mascot or just the cartoon character that was on the scoreboard?

I could have sworn that when I was a pup, there was a character that walked around by the warmup mounds down the RF line before the game and between innings (7th stretch)...he had a trumpet, and thought he had a sword too.

And they do show the cartoons on the diamond vision screen (I know not the same as the dome scoreboard) at the games.

Wasn’t Junction Jack a back to back winner of the mascot Homerun Derby or an MVP or something?

With all of the Biggio and Bagwell retirements and parades and ceremonies and other nostalgic bullshit... I eagerly anticipate next season when they officially retire Orbit's jersey. Perhaps I can get to the stadium early to ensure that I be one of the lucky 10,000 fans to receive the first of the first set of three Orbit bobble heads.

Lefty's Pub

The do have a bar area on the concourse in left field.  Not the same as Lefty's, but at least it's something.

They could move the scoreboards on the CBs and put a bar in there.  Now that would be fun.  If the Yankees ever came here, you'd be able to reach out and slap the ball from A-Rod's hands.

Safeco actually has something like that: there's a pub where you can sit at a bar with windows that open on the visitor's bullpen. Looked like it could be fun.

I really enjoyed Safeco when I was there a few years ago. It's a beautiful park, and I lucked into an absolutely perfect evening to watch a game.

General Admission too.

I see the guy all the time that used to be General Admission. He's some kind of PR person for the Stros. Those were the good ole days...and I had heard that Derek Bell used to get into the Orbit costume and would go in the stands on days he wasn't in the line up.
It's all part of the game.....

If Tillman were to buy the team, bet ya there would be some type of bar put in. Of coarse there would be tons of advertisements all over the place, wait there already are.

But the beauty of Tillman's bar would be that you could put all your drinks on several credit cards, and then bitch when you actually had to pay your credit card bill, and just transfer the balances to new cards.
I believe there ought to be a constitutional amendment outlawing AstroTurf and the designated hitter. I believe in the sweet spot, soft-core pornography, opening your presents Christmas morning rather than Christmas Eve and I believe in long, slow, deep, torture of Bud Selig.
