"Two years"???
« on: August 28, 2007, 11:56:48 am »
"This was two years in the process," McLane said.

Then what was the purpose of extending Garner through 2008 at the end of last season?
"Ground ball right side, they're not gonna be able to turn two OR ARE THEY, THROW, IS IN TIME!!! WHAT AN UNBELIEVABLE TURN BY BRUNTLETT AND EVERETT, AND THEY CUT DOWN MABRY TO END THE GAME, AND THE ASTROS LEAD THIS NATIONAL LEAGUE CHAMPIONSHIP SERIES THREE GAMES TO ONE!!!!!"

I'm telling you, if Mclane ran his trucking business like this, he couldn't deliver the morning newspaper.

Right, add this to the list.
I believe there ought to be a constitutional amendment outlawing AstroTurf and the designated hitter. I believe in the sweet spot, soft-core pornography, opening your presents Christmas morning rather than Christmas Eve and I believe in long, slow, deep, torture of Bud Selig.

Extensions don't = vote of confidence.  Ask Mike Shula formerly of Alabama, Terry Bowden formerly of Auburn, the list could go on of coaches/managers who had a decent season, were given extensions performances dipped and they were let go.

Sure. But if you're already thinking unhappy thoughts... Why risk the money? It's not like they had to pony up to keep Garner from bolting or to help recruiting or something.

Doesn't count.  Except for signing bonuses NFL contracts are in no way guaranteed.

You don't think signing FA involves recruitment?

Sure, a little. But I don't see major leaguers putting much stock on whether the manager is signed for several more years the way high school athletes recruited to college do.

Doesn't count.  Read it on the interwebs.

Mark Loretta stated that one of the reasons he wanted to play for Houston this year was because he enjoyed playing for Phil Garner when he was in Milwaukee.

Footer has already said that they don't expect Lamb or Loretta to be back.
