Friday disgusting beer thread...
« on: July 20, 2007, 09:55:59 am »
I forgot to mention that last week when driving through Abilene or Lubbock or somewhere out there, we saw a billboard for cans of...

Bud (and Bud Light) with Clamato Juice.

Premixed. Right in the can. The billboard was in Spanish, and I was convulsing, so I didn't get the full story, but it said something like "The Perfect Combination!" and some other come-ons.

Now maybe this is actually some delicacy that you'll enjoy if you try it, but I don't think I could ever get past my initial reaction. I've lived in Texas for more than 30 years and never heard of this. Has anybody else?
I remember all the good times me 'n Miller enjoyed
Up and down the M1 in some luminous yo-yo toy
But the future has to change - and to change I've got to destroy
Oh look out Lennon here I come - land ahoy-hoy-hoy

This is their version of a michelada.  Probably a good policy not to try one.

I was in Canada, and that is all they drink.  If it's not a "Canadian and Clam" it is a "Caesar".  Friggin Canucks.

I can understand mixing canadian whiskey with clamato juice, but beer? Gag.

A michelada has lime juice and hot sauce.  This thing austro describes is an abomination.

A Laredo style michelada does NOT have hot sauce.  That is plain nasty...

from wikipedia:

Quote
Many Anglo-Americans consider Clamato to be an acquired taste. Those who enjoy Clamato appreciate its complex, savoury and unexpectedly sweet flavour, especially as a cocktail mixer. Those who dislike it may have a fear of clams and other shellfish, a memory of the Bass-o-Matic mock-infomercial on Saturday Night Live

I've always thought that tomato juice was missing something.  I always thought it was vodka, but apparently it's fish.

I actually saw this shit at HEB here in Austin a few weeks ago.  It was on an end-cap, away from all the other beers.  Sounds gross.

I want to make beer out of kelp.  Seaweed is organic, so I assume it will ferment down to something.  There's plenty of it, washed up and already beginning to dry out, on the beach every morning.  Free for the taking.  Hell, Galveston County might even pay you to remove it.

I'm thinking with a clever enough ad campaign, it'll catch on and be trendy.  Then it won't matter what it tastes like.  I just need to find a filter for the flesh-eating bacteria.

Holy shit...you read my MIND!
The rules of distinction were thrown out with the baseball cap.  It does not lend itself to protocol.  It is found today on youth in homes, classrooms, even in fine restaurants.  Regardless of its other consequences, this is a breach against civility.  A civilized man should avoid this mania.
