I was talking to a friend of mine, a Cub fan, and his response was "If Cuban buys the Cubs, it guarantees they'll never win the WS ever again."

I enjoy mocking cub fans but even they don't deserve the arrogance that is Mark Cuban.  No one should have to endure that.  Not even his wife.

I agree he is really annoying, but he will put money into the team to make them a winner.  And he is smart enough to high good baseball men to run the club for him.  He did that in Dallas with the basketball, and while they might not have won the title, they are winning, and that is not something that has EVER happend in Dallas in basketball, not like this at least.

So I am actually hating that he is buying the ScRubs.

I agree with this. I was hoping that if he would buy a team, it would be his hometown Pirates, for whom I wish good things.

I've had the secret wish for awhile that the Bronfman family would buy the Cubs.

Cuban is used to dealing with a salary capped NBA franchise.  This could break him, or make him the richest man outside of Mexico.  He will make them win though.

I wouldn't want Mark Cuban as an owner of the Cubs.  He will make them a big time winner I would bet.  He won't act like they are a mid market team like the tribune company does.

I think my greatest fear is that somehow or another (and I cannot imagine any possible scenario under which this might happen) the Cubs go through some sort of major transformation, perhaps through a drastic ownership change, and they begin to bring in decent, respectable human beings for players, and figure out a way to run all the stupid, free-loading drunks out of Wrigley for good, thereby somehow transforming themselves into sympathetic characters, as a franchise; if not downright likeable characters.  Who will I direct my most basic, bilious hatred toward then?  The Brewers?

I don't think it will ever actually happen, though.  Not in my lifetime.

Hatred, no.  Loathing, yes.  If you can't understand it, try watching his Mavs-centric TV Show.  Yes, he has a TV Show.  He's a drama queen 24hrs a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.

As the Astros are the only Houston team I follow, I'll agree, Drayton Mclane.  Cuban is a douche because he wants to make the team about himself.  Not by displaying any talent or legitimately interesting attributes, but just by using money and half assed mouthing off.

During the San Antonio/Dallas series the season prior (when Dallas actually won), Cuban said some pretty nasty things about San Antonio.  I guess he thought he was either 1) funny or 2) good at talking smack to make his team get inspired to beat the Spurs.  All it did was become a huge distraction that both his coach and players asked him to stop.  I remember one of the radio guys (Silverstein?) coming on the local San Antonio morning show and defending Cuban, pretty much saying what KM just said.

He didn't last ten seconds before he left in a huff because Charlie Parker called major B.S. on what the guy was saying.   BTW - Champions scoreboard for the Spurs (4) regardless, and I am not a Spurs fan at all.  I just hate the Mavericks and Cuban more.

He should have said what he wanted about the team, the fans, but he should have left the city alone.  He is a classless bastard.  I'd feel the same way if McLane said shit about another city.  Leave the city out of it.  Talk smack about the team but not on the industry the city thrives.

Last year, after the Mavericks lost the Championship, I was at a Modano foundation game he was participating in. I wanted to taunt him so bad since the Mavs had just lost.  He is the reason for me rooting against a Texas team, when my own team wasn't in it.

Wholeheartedly agree. He's a "take the good with the bad" kinda guy. Like people have said, he's poured money and passion into the Mavs where there was none before, but he's made the whole team about himself.

I hate the Mavs, and Mark Cuban is probably a big reason why. I tend to see them as bitter, wild, and undisciplined, and that's all a product of Cuban. Cuban makes classless disparaging comments about other teams, and seems to allow his players to do likewise (Nowitzki has come of as a whiner the past two seasons in their big time playoff losses). Because in recent years the team and the players have gotten so much better (maybe a product of Avery Johnson), but that image remains due to their owner.

I guess Cuban isn't satisfied with spending money on NBA-imposed fines when he behaves like an asshat- now he wants to branch his spending to a second professional sport. Someone said something about "undisciplined"- that'd be Cuban.

I generally good-naturedly hate the Cubs to bug one of my best friends, who is a diehard Cubs fan. If Cuban becomes an owner, I may have to ~actually~ hate them.
