Mini-Void

Working late, I just went to the GameZone to see what's happening tonight, then remembered that it's the All-Star break. D'oh!

I guess if I rush home I can get there in time to see the 2007 Major League Baseball All-Star Break Airport Tarmac Red Carpet Walk Sponsored by Depends Undergarments and Milwaukee's Best Light. I forgot to set the TiVO for that one.

Why aren't you glued to the tv listening to Chris Berman come up with ridiculous middle names for everyone while saying back, back, back on every other home run ball?
Crazy Joe McCluskey was fucking nuts.  It's why they called him Crazy Joe.

I can't believe I forgot about the super-annoying Chris Berman HR Derby crap until I tuned in.  Making it much worse is the presence of Dusty Baker, Joe Morgan and Barry Bonds.  Thanks to my dual tuner DirecTiVo, I can watch something else and then occasionally go back to the HR Derby that was on pause and fast foward through it so I can quickly see if there was anything worth watching.  My expectations are not high.

I was caught tryingto find something on XM last night with no west coast games - their talking heads (radio?) such as Dibble or pretty bad.

You can usually catch Dibble ranting that steroids have no effect on performance about once a day.  That seems to be something near and dear to his heart.  I don't listen to MLB on XM much anymore because there isn't much insight to be had.  Also, a fairly heavy emphasis on the world evolving around New York and Boston.

I thought it was humorous that someone called out Berman about back, back, back, back.. and his response was "well I can't say it for every HR."  REALLY Berman?!

I'm sure Joe Morgan interrupted at some point during that conversation to talk about the Big Red Machine and racism.

At one point they were discussing the increased popularity of the Homerun Derby and Berman (I think) says that it was because of the great commentators.

Baker (I think) quickly corrected him that it was the quality of play by the people actually participating. Berman was like 'Oh yeah, of course.'

I found it completely unwatchable because of those assclowns. And going to the baseball tonight set for commentary after every break was pure genius.

I made it a point not to watch until later, like 9 pm (because I wanted to see this Bronx is Burning series premiere... *yawn*).  Any way, I heard Morgan say something similar to this (I can't really remember because it was so mind numbing, I quickly flushed it out with some Dos Equis):

"Fatique is starting to set in now, Albert looks like he doesn't have the strength to power one out!"  *BAM*(massive shot to left by Pooholes) "That is why this guy is a superstar, they step it up when the game is on the line and they need to do something special!"

Damn, Joe Morgan is incredible!

The FJM guys posted today that at one point Dusty Baker said "My son wanted to go out there [to shag balls] but I told him he was too young."

JT Snow agrees.

i really cannot stand the HR Derby on TV. i agree the "analysis" segment was ludicrous. yet, when Mark and i saw the HR hitting live in Houston, it was great.

The bats speak for themselves.  Maybe they should adopt that approach on TV.

They should just mike the batter and let him comment on his own performance.

Agreed. It was a whole different story being there, especially with Berkman and Tejada squaring off.

On TV, it's downright unwatchable.

Me too.  Walton is the master of taking what just happened and making it the whole story, before and after the discrete event itself.

I watched a bit of the ASG but decided to spend some time on the computer.  I was so desperate to have baseball on in the background while "working" that I'm listening to the archived Greeneville Astros game from tonight through MiLB.com.

One broadcaster, no commercials so it's just some dude talking constantly.  I'll never bitch about Milo again.

Actually, it's kind of interesting in its own bizarre way but there no way I'm gonna last nine innings.
