This is ESPN's target demographic
« on: July 05, 2007, 12:49:21 pm »
From the ongoing Keith Law chat:

Quote
Jim (Boston): Who the hell is this Hunter Pence? I just caught him rip one on BB Tonight.
I believe there ought to be a constitutional amendment outlawing AstroTurf and the designated hitter. I believe in the sweet spot, soft-core pornography, opening your presents Christmas morning rather than Christmas Eve and I believe in long, slow, deep, torture of Bud Selig.

What was the answer?

Also, do you really watch these chats or just read them later?

If I see one onging, I'll see what's been answered.  The full transcripts are "Insider" only, and I'm not paying for that.

His answer was (paraphrased) - potential star, despite how he "looks" at the plate, needs major plate discipline work.

Keith Law said this?  I'm shocked he used "looks" at the plate as an answer.  Shocked I tells ya!

That could be the makings of a sweet t-shirt:  "Who is Hunter Pence"
Today seems like a good day to burn a bridge or two

I am sure when Biggio got his 3000 hit, there was some "insider" asking "Who's this Biggio guy?"  (and mis-pronouncing it while typing)

Apparently Pence jerseys are now available. And sold out at some Academy locations.
Oye. Vamos, vamos.

Not sure if you have noticed, but a lot of people like him.

Yeah, I heard something about that. That is why I was letting everyone know they can now honor him by wearing and XXL jersey with his name on it.

My brother-in-law went to Academy yesterday and just happened on them. The lady said they had just gotten them in and she was putting out the last box. She asked if he was any good.
Oye. Vamos, vamos.

Did you explain the whole head-bobbing-while-running thing?

Plenty of Ensberg jerseys available, I'm sure.

And Clemens. And Williams.

I was at the games in Arlington and counted more than one Astros 'fan' wearing a Clemens jersey.
Oye. Vamos, vamos.

SportsNation Keith Law: He can hit, and has power, even though he does a lot of things "wrong" at the plate. I think he's a star, although his plate discipline in the majors has left something to be desired.

apparently all those "wrong" things include being 2nd in the NL in batting average.

The ironing is that Law is one of those guys who says he cares not if a player looks like a fiddler crab, he's above all those superficial concerns.  He wants results.  And he certainly got a result in Toronto.
