Biggio sitting out a home weekend game, even though it is a day game/after night thing, I'm still surprised.

If he went 3x5 it would put Gar in a tight spot over the long road trip on trying to preserve 3k for the next homestand.

But, it is father's day...

he is the only lefty in the lineup, because he is en fuego. i think burke is filling in for berkman today.

Heh. Right before that pitch, JD yelled "Green Light" sarcastically. Yeah right, no way in hell he swings at that, no matter who is hitting behind him.

And then he starts down to first to try and coax a ball 4? Ray Charles would have called that a strike.

It was hit just hard enough and fielded just shallow enough that a perfectly accurate show just looped in at the right time.

And then he smartly scored on a bloop over the third baseman's head. Nice little inning for Burke. 6-1 Stros.

Through three he's at around 54-55 pitches. He's been working hard out there.

I always laugh when an AL team pinch hits for the pitcher.  I'm imagining the manger sitting in the dugout going, "Dammit, Washburn sucks today!  Why does he have to bat?  I hate the NL!  I wish there was something we can do about it!"  Then someone leans over and reminds him about pinch hitters.

I read several managers where they say the AL decisions... strictly for knowing when a pitcher is tiring and ready for the showers... is more difficult. You do not have the 'I'll just PH for him next inning' to fall back on.

The AL skippers say the double switch is a piece of cake.

Brownie just mentioned the 2 grand slam inning against the Mets in '69. Wynn and Menke. I remember listening to that game, the first of a double header. Astros scored 11 runs in that inning. In the 2nd inning of game two, they scored ten. That day was one of the unforgettable days, for myself, of Astros baseball listening... along with Dierker's no hitter against the Braves, Maloney/Wilson B2B nohitters (2 days), and the forgettable 24 inning 1-0 game, also against the Mets.

And, of course, Nolan Ryan and the Mets of 1969 went on to have the last laugh as the Miracle men brought home a ring.
Those were the days, daytime WS play. We watched the games in class, as I am sure a lot of people did. After the series, Jerry brought home
beaucoup bling...gloves for my brother and myself, bats, and about 7 signed baseballs. I only have 2 now. The others died in
street BB action (sigh).
