Anyone going to the game tomorrow night?
« on: June 11, 2007, 01:21:24 pm »
Watch for me, I am throwing out the first pitch.  Is there any OWA gear I should wear out there?

Would you be willing to wear something low cut with OWA.com inked across your cleavage?

No big story, I just entered a contest.  It was open to all season ticket holders.  They called me on Friday and said that I won.  Wish I had a better story, but that's all I got.

you left out the part about there being 10 winners and the bullpen session you had to throw to defeat the other 9.

Since it's against an AL team, you should throw the pitch underhanded.

Or, if you can somehow work a walk while you're out there, Beane might sign you to play for the A's!

Mrs Limey and I are going to be in 227, row 9.  Will try to get some video if possible.

Can you take cameras into MMPUS (Mrs Limey's digital "stills" camera takes some top quality video too), or will it have to be shitty cellphone footage?

Based solely on the flash "bulbs" that go off constantly in big games, I'd say that they're allowed.

Reminds me of the first time Nolan came back to Houston as a StRanger, I think it was one of those preseason games just before the season opener...

First pitch and about a million flash bulbs go off... After the game Biggio said he couldn't see a thing and that it wasn't a pleasant feeling facing Nolan and not being able to see the ball...

Alright, before anyone else gets a chance to say it, I fucked it up.  I thought throwing it hard was a good idea.  Well, I threw it hard, bounced it about three feet outside the plate and all the way to the backstop.  Chris Sampson caught it and tole me "That one had some hair on it!"  I don't know how he would know that since it was nowhere near him.  I need a do over.  Thanks everyone who has pictures, I am just glad I wasn't advertising for OWA.  What a shitty, shitty pitch.

What a shitty, shitty pitch.

choke?

I was in section 310.  As you were running out there I explained to my wife the story.  Then you made your pitch and she said, "That poor guy."

Then the 9-year-old affiliated with the Special Olympics went after you and threw a perfect strike from the mound and she said, "That poor, poor guy!"

Oh well, Astros are 1-0 when an OWA person throws one to the backstop in the pregame.  Good job, gleach.  Who's gonna step up next?

That's the first thing I thought..you threw it too hard. The worst part wasn't you burying the heater, it was the 8 year old that followed you with a strike right down the middle. Still, what an awesome opportunity.

To quick with his delivery.  Strolled to the mound, stepped up, whirled and threw it away.

nobody popped it over the right field wall, so it wasnt the worst of the night.

Ain't that the truth.  Typical Lidge closing effort: strikes out the side around a homer, double and a blown save.

I already told my wife to start looking for charity auctions that are auctioning off a first pitch.  Next time I won't make the same mistake.  Next time I will overthrow it to the backstop. And that 9 year old had a gun.

ETA: By the way, was that you yelling when I went out to the mound, Limey? I thought it sounded a little effeminate. And thanks for the support.

Didn't see you bounce the First Pitch, but I did catch you on the pop foul that the guy behind you caught.  I was thinking..."who's that doofus there slobbering all over his wife...oh, wait a minute..."
The rules of distinction were thrown out with the baseball cap.  It does not lend itself to protocol.  It is found today on youth in homes, classrooms, even in fine restaurants.  Regardless of its other consequences, this is a breach against civility.  A civilized man should avoid this mania.

Sorry I missed it.  We didn't get there until the anthem.

As someone said though, you are 1-0 after throwing out the first pitch.

Mrs Limey has video of it, but filmed in maximum resolution so the file is huge.  I think I may have to send it to you via CD unless I can edit it such that it can be e-mailed.  Will keep you posted.

No. No youtube.  It's bad enough that I have the painful memories.  I don't need them shared with the world.

I'll burn you a CD of the full resolution file.  It's ok, but Mrs Limey forgot that she was filming after the pitch, so there's a couple of seconds of floor before the camera comes back up.  She didn't miss the pitch, you'll be pleased to know.
