Berkman uses the "D" word
« on: June 08, 2007, 10:02:04 pm »
"I didn't feel like I did anything to deserve to be thrown out of the game in the first place, which means I should have been able to come back out on the field, because I never would have been out of the game," Berkman said. "That's the only thing that's regrettable for me. I still don't know why he threw me out of the game. I didn't charge over there until after he gave me the heave-ho."

Berkman, by his estimation, has been tossed from four or five games in his career for arguing balls and strikes. But interestingly, he has never cursed at an umpire. In fact, he hasn't as much as uttered one curse word in years -- dating back to high school.

"I hate to drop 'dadgumit' on somebody, but if circumstances call for it, I will break it out," he said. "And I think that's one of those words where people just can't stand to hear it. I had to pull out all of the stops."

"I thought I'd walked, but the guy (Ed Rapuano) had called me out (on a checked swing) and instead of a walk it's a strikeout. That irritates the stew out of me even now. So it's not the fact that I've had some misfortune and under performance. It's the fact that I was really irritated that I felt like he missed that call."

In a way, it was good that the handbags were broken out because he would've looked gosh-darned silly coming up for his next eat bat.

Watched "Wild Hogs" on the plane yesterday.  You don't want to know how they edited Martin Lawrence calling someone an "asshole's asshole".

Maybe some guys/gals in here would be willing to give him some private lessons on the appropriate use of curse words.

I don't think I wanted to know that you actually devoted part of your life to watching "Wild Hogs."

Trapped on a plane and had watched two movies already.

BTW, Zodiac is an excellent movie, but it's really annoying when there's 5 pages of follow up text at the end, that cannot be read on the tiny aeroplane screens.

Good god, man, don't they allow books on your airline?? "Wild Hogs" is that movie where Martin, Travolta, and Jim Belushi or someone similar ride around on Harleys musing about middle-age or some shit, right? I'd rather spend two hours studying the emergency crash procedures diagrams.

I'd rattled through the latest John Sandford and was using the movies to pad time (and avoid the bloke sitting next to me who'd brought nothing to read and didn't seem to want to watch the movies, but did seem to want me to entertain him on our 10 hour journey).  Also finished both Sudoku's and most of the crossword.

Ah. Now I see. You needed the movie and accompanying headphones to avoid the needy neighbor. I still might've opted to lock myself in the bathroom for two hours, personally.

I have a friend who carries the Odyssey on flights just to kill the conversation of neighbors.  He likes the book and he finds it kills almost all  coversation.

"Whatcha reading?"
"The Odyssey."
"oh...."

I know I'm being rude, but the risk of getting stuck in a conversation with a complete nonce is just far too great.  Especially on a 10-hour flight.  Basically, I don't talk to anyone sitting next to me unless they look like this.
