I hate west coast games.

I hate LOSING west coast games even more.

How do people on the east coast watch their teams play west coast games? Do they just take the week off?

I don't even bother watching, unless I know I've got nothing to do the next day. Usually, if I just watch the first few innings, I'm hooked, and fucked.

We didn't get to bed til midnight. If I was in your time zone and had to work this morning, I'd have gotten about 5 hours of sleep.

West Coast games are just too late to watch during the week. I just get up and check out the scores the next morning.

The game here tonight begins at 10:30 p.m. EST.

Generally I watch the first few innings, and then listen to rest of the game on the radio as I'm reading a book and going to sleep.

The next morning I wake up realizing I have no idea what the score was, what happened in the previous two chapters I just read, and there aren't enough cups of coffee to get me through the morning.

West Coast trips are my favorite--rarely do I get out of the office in time to actually watch a game in the other time zones. I generally listen on the computer radio. Blessed technology.

I don't know how "old" you consider 30 to be, but it's more that if I enjoy "eating" and "living indoors" I have to "show up" at "work" at "about 8am."

I take it you work either 12-14 hour days or a mid shift. Old doesn't have anything to do with it, unless you think needing 6 hours of sleep is for old people.

When I lived on the east coast, I gave up on west coast games. Just too late. And when I lived on the west coast, the east coast games started when I was at work. I watched last night, but fell asleep after we went down 3-0.

the former--I'm a relatively young professional so getting kicked in the junk by your boss is pretty much included in my job description. I'd much rather crack open a beer at tune in for a first pitch at 6:05, but it ain't happening for me any time soon.

Basically, I have given up sleep for the next few days. And I didn't even start watching the 24 series finale until the Astros game was over.

You don't know how much my wife hates baseball season. I should taken her lack of interest into consideration before we got engaged.

Right there with ya for the most part. Playing a westcoast game at the same time TMC is running a Duke Marathon can cut into sleep time. Needless to say I "had" to stay up and watch Rio Lobo and The Sons of Katy Elder, becuase the DVDs that I have are just to hard to open during daylight hours, and I don't think I've seen those two over 1500 times like the others. 6 hours of sleep? Hell, anything over 5 hours is just pure laziness. Think I hit the pillow about 3:05 this morning and was up bright and early at 6:30, got the boys ready and dropped them off at school and was at work by 8am. What's so hard about that? :-)

I'm gonna be the asshole here and say that I love the west coast games since I'm actually on the west coast and don't have to rush home from work to catch them. The work servers don't let me fire up the MLB.TV there so if it's on the east coast I'm missing at least an hour and a half of the game.

What line of work are you in? Surfing? There are tons of jobs in Houston and the cost of living is way more reasonable. I also have/married a Cali girl.

Digital arts/3d animation. Yeah the cost of living is higher but I'm living comfortably in a nicer part of Orange County. I'm not done with college yet but I'm making a nice salary already.

I tivo it and blow through the game in about 15 minutes before work. I can't stay up and watch anymore, just too late.

Last night I couldn't get to sleep, I'd watched the astros up 2-1 and tuned in just in time to see the final out of the loss. Delete Tivo- go to bed bummed out.

My personal sleep scale:

Night before -- Day after
0-4 hours of sleep -- barely functional to non-functional
4-6 hours of sleep -- functional, yawn at desk periodically, daydream about Heather Locklear
6-7 hours of sleep -- optimal, bright-eyed and bushy-tailed (Note: Co-workers despise me in this mode)
7+ hours of sleep -- see 0-4 hours of sleep above

As Warren Zevon said, I'll sleep when I'm dead. I guess he's getting his chance to catch up now.

**All the above states can be modified/ameliorated by the careful and calculated use of amphetemines.

***The above scale assumes no alcohol intake. With moderate to heavy alcohol intake, add at least 5 hours to each level.
