Garner Provides BB Material
« on: April 25, 2007, 08:07:19 am »
Why would you say this after the first game of a three game series?

"We're just better than that," Garner said. "These guys are 4-0 against us, and what have we scored the most, two runs in a game (four on April 4)? Their pitching's not that good. They pitch pretty good, but it's not that good."

Of course it's true, but you don't say that to the press.

Perhaps, after a certain point, avoiding BB material is less important that kicking your team square in the ass to get the message accross.  Having watched last nights game, I think his assessment was pretty fair and accurate.  They stunk, all the way around, other than Woody going 7 innings and the bullpen getting the job done.

I don't care so much about the offense, because Maholm pitched a solid game with a bit of help from the Astros hitters, but the defense was awful.  And while I don't want to start the "Bash Biggio" train, his range is awful.  Burke is a weakness in the OF.  There's alot of room for improvement on last nights defensive effort.

Lane needs some starts in CF - Burke is looking like all-around crap lately.  Not that he's alone.
I believe there ought to be a constitutional amendment outlawing AstroTurf and the designated hitter. I believe in the sweet spot, soft-core pornography, opening your presents Christmas morning rather than Christmas Eve and I believe in long, slow, deep, torture of Bud Selig.

What about when the press (Milo) calls out Morgan Ensberg

What did Milo say?
I remember all the good times me 'n Miller enjoyed
Up and down the M1 in some luminous yo-yo toy
But the future has to change - and to change I've got to destroy
Oh look out Lennon here I come - land ahoy-hoy-hoy

Just that if Woody can pitch a game while hurt then Morgan should have gone early to the park for treatment.  He also said that Morgan probably should have played if he was heathly enough to pinch hit later in the game.

He was pretty strong in his opinion of the team.  He also said Burke's miss in the first inning on the Jason Bay hit should have been an error.  He called the team lethargic.  He agreed with Phil's comments.

He also said the Bucco's pitcher did a good job, but the batters weren't being patient and the defense let Woody down.

It's all part of his subtle plan to increase Lidge's trade value.  He said similar last season.  Which is why it's kinda depressing.

It's not pretty when grown men try to pretend they're dumb.  He pretended he had to look up lethargic.  Coy is unattractive at 90 Milo.  I thought his criticism of Ensberg was particularly off base.  He wasnt in Pittsburgh, he has no idea when Ensberg got to the park or what he did there.  Also, what was the criticism against Ensberg last season?  He hurt the team because he played hurt.

Milo was familiar with the situation.  JD talked about Ensberg before the game.
Lighten up, Francis.

Yeah, that was the big problem.  It's hard to win when you don't score.  Bidge had two hits (2/3 of the team's total) and Burke hung him out to dry on the bases twice.  I don't blame Gar for being frustrated; I feel the same way.  I'm not too worried about him waking the sleeping giant that is the Pittsburgh Pirates.
