Last night's offense-just enough to win
« on: April 17, 2007, 07:06:27 am »
We hit .267 as a club and received 10 walks, but we scratched out only four runs and left 13 runners on base. Boy were we lucky last night.

Does the 13 LOB count the 3 on base with no outs when the Astros won?
It's my estimation that every man ever got a statue made of 'em was one kinda sombitch or another.

Obviously it would. But even if it goes down as in effect only 10 LOB, that's a lot and equals the number of BB's we got. We should have put several more up on the board with those opportunities.

Lighten up Francis, Stros won.

Hey, I'm thrilled that we pulled that one out. We just might not be so lucky on another night. We've just got to do a better job of situational hitting.

I hear what you're saying.  If it makes you feel any better, Carlos Lee agrees with you.

The more I see Lee hit, the more I like him.  Several guys on the team should mirror his approach at the plate.

And Gar needs to find more AB's for Loretta.

58 to go and he'll probably find those AB's.

Maybe we weren't lucky last night.  Maybe we were unlukcy in that our hits didn't occur when people were on base.

You see pal, that's who I am, and you're nothing. Nice guy, I don't give a shit. Good father, fuck you. Go home and play with your kids. You wanna work here, close. You think this is abuse? You think this is abuse, you cocksucker? You can't take this, how can you take the abuse you get on a sit?

Oh I am convinced that luck plays a large role in baseball, but I also feel that you can do alot to improve your chances at a lucky outcome.

Branch Rickey - "Luck is the residue of preparation meeting opportunity".  As long as you get yourself in a chance to win, that is as much as you can ask for.  At the end, if you win by 1 run or 14, it doesn't count more or less on the ledger sheet.

Pitchers throw the ball, after it leaves their hands, they have no control over where the ball goes.  Batters hit the ball, after they hit the ball, they have no control over where it goes or if the play is made or not.  You just do what you have control over and leave the rest to the BBGs I guess.  And you'll win a far bit more games than you'll lose too.

I only got the game on the radio last night but listened to mobergs interview on baseball tonight. he is doing well these days. it just comes as such a jolt and a  nastly saltue to the guys who made the schedule they are out on the road so long after two games at home. milo was in milo mode trying to get the other announcer to play into his pathetic attempts to work in his commercial sponcers. (which seemed to be more numerous than the play its self) the one highlight was learing that there is a softball group , i think in austin, that is named Milo Hamptons Ballers.. go forth and  make what you want of that
forever is composed entirely of nows

I don't think there is much to be upset about as far as the bats go. I lost count of how many flies to the track/wall the Good Guys hit. They were getting good swings on balls. Just not travelling the extra 10 feet to make them HRs or gappers instead of long outs.

The Astros won a game the way that good teams win games last night. Looking for faults in hanging tough and good late inning relief seems like a mistake to me.

Plus, I give the Marlins pitchers credit for pitching out of some jams despite their generally lousy control. And tip of the cap to Wandy for a nice outing. He seemed to be mixing up his pitches well (maybe that's Ausmus, but Wandy has to make them go the right places).

maybe if we could reward lance with a twinkie for every homerun hit he would become more productive.
