Advice for Philly Series?
« on: April 08, 2007, 07:24:34 pm »
Looks like the only chance I'll have to see the good guys play in person for the next couple of years (moving to Hawaii this summer) will be this weekend in Philadelphia.  Anyone been to a game at Citizens Bank Park?  Any advice for dealing with the notorious Philiadelphia sports fan base?

Unless you plan on doing a lot of taunting (which is looking increasingly unlikely), you should be just fine. It won't be any worse than any other park in the majors, with the possible exception of St. Louis where I hear they fellate you.

I'm going too... I was there for the series in 2005 and many times at The Vet, never had any problems.  Depending on where you are staying, Septa works well to get to the stadium, and is a lot cheaper and faster than driving/parking.
"Ground ball right side, they're not gonna be able to turn two OR ARE THEY, THROW, IS IN TIME!!! WHAT AN UNBELIEVABLE TURN BY BRUNTLETT AND EVERETT, AND THEY CUT DOWN MABRY TO END THE GAME, AND THE ASTROS LEAD THIS NATIONAL LEAGUE CHAMPIONSHIP SERIES THREE GAMES TO ONE!!!!!"

Wear something warm on the outside.  With Kevlar underneath.

The Astros probably claim one or more of the islands as a home territory, so he is fucked.

7:00 pm central games start at 3:00 pm Hawaii time. Extra innings + DVR would work fine.

In Hawaii, most mainland sports are over by dinner, so no staying up to some weird time is needed, except for Breakfast at Wimbledon.

I'll second that. I was a little worried the first time I wore Astros stuff to a game in Philly, but I had no problems. The worst I've received is anonymous "Astros suck!" calls while walking to my car after a game.

Citizen's Bank is nice, but not anything special. I think Philly got stuck with the 2000s equivalent of the cookie-cutter park that Veterans Stadium was. The only unique thing, I think, is the assortment of local eateries out beyond centerfield -- supposed to be some good local food there (at ballpark prices, of course). I stick with nachos at ballgames, but several friends here rave about The Schmidter -- some sort of Philly cheesesteak on steroids, I think.

Thanks all for the replies.  I think I'll leave the old rainbow gut at home since the assault on the senses may classify as taunting.

As far as baseball in Hawaii goes, watching will be no problem, but I'll miss getting to the park now and then.  That is unless the Padres or another team do another "series in paradise" like they did a few years back.

Whats up, long time reader first time poster.  I grew up in Alvin and i've lived in Hawaii for the last year and a half.  The Hawaiian winter league is here and i got to see the really unspectacular Koby Clemens and a few other prospects.  as far as other ballgames - the UH games are pretty cool and the big beer and garlic fries goes a long way.  It'll be nice to have another astros fan on the island.
