I respectfully disagree. Rodriguez doesn't make the club in my opinion because he can't throw strikes, and when he does, it is BP. Nieve is my fifth starter. I also take Munson over Q.

I honestly don't get why Wandy is still in discussions about the Astros rotation other than "remember when..."

Wandy has pretty well proven he is not a major league pitcher.

Purp's comments were mostly limited to what cuts were made and what roles those guys will have in Round Rock. He went out of his way to compliment the Crimson Chin and said that optioning him was a tough pill to swallow, but that the front office doesn't feel comfortable going with eleven pitchers. One idiot fuckoff called in to ask why "Rafael" Palmeiro is still on the club and Purpura politely explained to him the value of a true pinch-hitter. Moehler and White will fill the long relief roles, along with Sampson in the short term until he finally gets his first start.

Moehler in the pen. Not bad in a really small sample size last year. Came out of the pen 8 times in August. Averaged over 2 innings each time out with a 2.45 ERA. He's always been a starter otherwise.

This could be a good move here.

Really? A single ST start against one of the worst teams in baseball is what was used to effectively make this decision. It wasn't the horrible starts over the last two years, the fact that he was basically handed the #4 job going into ST and still sucked? Doesn't anybody remember the sinking feeling that you'd feel when Wandy was brought into a game?

How in God's name did Wandy make this squad and Nieve not?

And since St. Louis goes tomorrow night, LaRussa will skip both his 4th and 5th starter and throw Chris Carpenter against Wandy.

I'm surprised. But I'm still looking for the reason. I know that speculating the other 29 GMs weren't aware of his skills and he slipped through unnoticed is complete bs. My best guess at this point is that most teams are satisfied with how their utility players fit in the specific scheme they have.

I absolutely love Moehler's attitude, and it's been that way since day one he was offered an NRI. Dude just wants to contribute anyway he can to a winning club, and pitch in October. I was rooting for him all through spring, and hope he continues to impress all the way through October.

As of yesterday, Todd Self was also with Round Rock. He had a homer and a double against Corpus Saturday afternoon. Looks like Round Rock will be pretty solid this season!

I was at the game Saturday. The first inning was an absolute mess, but doesn't look like it in the box score (thank God for Adam Everett and the Royals' collective love of towering infield popups). The rest of the game was ... below average, but not terrible. Still, I left thinking Wandy had just lost his job. Oops.

More like Barthmaier and Paulino have never seen an inning above high-A. They'll start the season at AA Corpus.

Because during ST it doesn't matter; it's just a way of sending them to the minor league camp. The actual assignments are happening right now and in some cases won't be final until Wednesday.
