alarming stat
« on: March 09, 2007, 01:31:20 pm »
I know these are only spring numbers but can you believe Pence has only one walk all spring?

 Code:
Player G AB R H  2B 3B HR RBI TB BB SO OBP  SLG   AVG
 Pence  8 13 5 10 3  1  2   6  21 1  1 .800 1.615 .769

How can he hope to make the team with so little patience at the plate?

I would like to see his triples numbers go up, before he makes the club. I mean 1 triple, come on!

Always ready to go to a game.

Chris Shelton, circa 2006, is the poster child for outrageous hype. Didn't he hit 8 homers in the first two weeks of the season and 8 the rest of the season before being replaced on the postseason roster by Sean Casey?

Congratulations to Hunter Pence so far.

Now show us what you've got.

What about the K rate?  over 30% of his outs are on K's!!  That's pretty much what Jimerson did last year in RR.

Settle down, 14 PAs is obviously not a meaningful sample size.

Bobby Abreu led MLB with 124 walks last year in 686 PAs.  If Pence had just one more walk so far, would you be predicting that he'd be near the top of the majors in walks?

I can't fault a guy who's hitting well for taking hacks.

It's hard to tell what is a serious complaint here anymore.

The slacker went a mere 3-4 today (so far) and his BA went down.

See?  That's the start of the downward spiral back to reality.  No doubt, he'll get impatient as his batting average plummets, become even less disciplined at the plate and become even more of a liability in the walks/OBP department.

Yep.  And he's now up to 40% of his outs via the K.
