Morgan admits he shouldn't have played hurt last year

Quote:

Every day after mid-June, Morgan Ensberg woke up hoping the pain in his right shoulder had gone away. But it was always there, preventing him from raising his arm above his head and throbbing every time the Houston Astros' third baseman swung a bat or threw a ball....

"The thing I think I did a poor job of was recognizing the amount of pain and how much it was affecting my performance on the field," he said. "With hindsight, you look back and realize you were hurting the team. You also hurt yourself."

Garner covers for him though.
Quote:

Manager Phil Garner said he asked Ensberg repeatedly how he was feeling and Ensberg always said he was OK. But Garner understands how difficult it can be for a player to admit he's too injured to play.

"We talk out of both sides of our mouths, meaning managers and baseball executives," Garner said. "We want guys to be tough, but then when we're tough, we say, 'Oh, gee whiz, we don't want you to be tough when it perhaps hurts the team or the production.'

"How is a player supposed to know?" Garner said. "I don't fault him for that, so much."

Hopefully he is back to 2005 form.  That would be a big help to Berky and Carlos.

Here's the issue I can't get over.  His injury occurred June 9th.  Below is his line in May:
AB  H  BB  SO  Avg  OBP  SLG
110 24  19  28 .216 .328 .450

So, either there was an earlier injury, he was slumping badly before the injury, or the injury really isn't the problem.  We'll find out eventually.

Thank you!  I looked for his stats on ESPN and his May stats were completly missing.  Weird.
News that is sufficiently bad somehow carries its own guarantee of truth.  Only good reports need confirmation.

Not really ... You couldn't find them there, because Major Tom had already taken them to post here.
