The best part was the cold shoulder treatment from the guys in the dugout. They could hardly contain their laughter.

Yeah, Lance Berkman gave it away with the giggling. That was hilarious though.

The curtain call made me wince a little, but it isn't like he will do this all the time. After Roy's comments on the offense a few weeks ago, it was almost like he said "that is how you do it, Mo."
It's my estimation that every man ever got a statue made of 'em was one kinda sombitch or another.

JD commented that Roy doesn't always get the credit from the fans he deserves after merely doing his job, namely 6 or 7 innings of solid pitching, so the curtain call was a nice touch. I took that to mean, for instance, when he is removed for a PH the fans don't get a chance to recognize his accomplishments because he is not on the field anymore.

There was a manager (or maybe several) who would run his pitchers out there to get a quick out after already deciding he would be pulled, just so the pitcher could take the slow walk back to the dugout in front of the home fans and be recognized and applauded for his efforts. Of course, removed for a PH foils that 'strategy.'

Why did it make you wince?

I don't like curtain calls. That, and the glare off his head when he tipped his cap.

I like that Roy got to have fun with the curtain call and, with the fun they were having in the dugout, it was like the players were letting the fans be a part of it by getting Roy to walk up the steps. In just about every way, it was a positive thing. You are right, the fans got to show some appreciation for Oswalt that they usually don't get a chance to do.

That said, I still don't like curtain calls.

Ever?  Or if a guy has a three homer game in game 7 of the World Series, would that be ok?

He sure is bald isn't he.

they interviewed huff after the game and said he never saw roy boy smile so big.. he was usually stone cold serious. the part i liked was when they ignored roy 0 when he walked in the dugout and they made a big show of "ignoring: him
forever is composed entirely of nows

I'm with ya.  On this one, there may have been some other motive, from the fans and from Sparky.

Ever. There is still a game being played.

The only time I can think of where it would be appropriate would be a player leaving the field during the game and he may never step foot on the field again. You know, an end of a career type thing.

I'd pay big money to see Bagwell be able to do just that.  See him play again, knowing it's his last game ever.  Go to the top of the steps and tip the cap to the cheering crowd.  The place wouldn't quiet down for what seems like an eternity.  That's the way it should have been.
News that is sufficiently bad somehow carries its own guarantee of truth.  Only good reports need confirmation.

I know it's not quite the situation you describe, but opening day was a lot like that this year.

I can see where you're coming from, but it's not like Roy-O did the curtain call in game 1 of a 7 game playoff series. Now that would be contemptible.

Yes it was.   That was a fantastic scene.   One where you could actually be proud of your fellow Houston Astros fans.  Bags got the ovation he had earned and he seemed truly appreciative if not a tad bit embarrassed by it.
There are three rules that I live by: never get less than twelve hours sleep; never play cards with a guy who has the same first name as a city; and never get involved with a woman with a tattoo of a dagger on her body. Now you stick to that, and everything else is cream cheese.

Glad to see curtain calls aren't universally accepted here.  I think they're totally overdone, especially at the collegiate level.  Of course, I'm not real big on choo-choos in ballparks, either, unless they're bringing me a beer...which they're not.
"(512) ybbodeus looks just as creepy in HD as in person."   That is a problem, and we are working on it.
