Cards' new stadium
« on: April 03, 2006, 02:22:55 pm »
It seems to me that the Co-ardinals moving into a new stadium is likely to hurt them.  It happens to a lot of teams the first year.  Can anyone think of a team/new stadium where that didn't happen recently?

The Indians won the division, I believe in their first year of Jacob's Field.

Braves (don't know if that's "recent" enough for you).

Mariners won the Wild Card their first full season in Safeco.  Best record in history the following year.

Orioles won 22 more games in the first year of OPCY than the last year of Memorial Stadium.

I really don't think you can make a correlation here.

This may be overly simplistic, but it seems that going from a small/normal-sized stadium to a big stadium tends to help; whereas going from a big/normal-sized stadium to a bandbox usually leads to an adjustment period.

The great pitchers will excel anywhere, but the average ones are more susceptible to park effects. Just look at the post-Chavez career numbers of just about every Dodger deportee over the last 20 years.

Of course this theory probably only applies to teams that were decent to begin with. Reds, Tigers and Brewers need not apply.

What are the dimensions of New Jake City?

336 feet down the left-field line, 390 in the left-field power alley, 400 in center field, 390 in the right-field power alley and 335 to the right-field foul pole.
