What a difference a year makes
« on: January 09, 2006, 01:08:50 pm »
Just curious what people's thoughts are on this topic.

You have a hot-shot pitching prospect, who is tearing things up at every level.
You project him to be ready to rotation spot say in 07, but you have a rash of injuries or trades in 06, that force him into the rotation a year early.

What impact do you think this would have on that player?  Would it be significant? Would it matter that in the normal order of things he would have been brought up middle to late in 06 instead of begining of 07?

Just curious because the Astros have several hot pitching prospects that are probably slated to start the year at AAA, but if some odd trade happen over the next couple of months they might be forced into the rotation this year instead.  Namely thinking of Hirsh and Nieve, but you could throw in Patton or others if it helps you answer the hypothetical.

Ask the Cubs and every pitching prospect they've ever had.
