The Rangers just threw comparable money, 1 yr anyway, at  Barajas.

Barajas has some pretty good offensive numbers, at least in terms of home runs and RBIs.  And he does throw out a pretty decent number of runners.  Catchers who can hit get paid a lot.  I don't think that the contracts that Ausmus and Barajas can be compared.  They got paid for different reasons.
Boom!

Good?  Compared to what?  Other catchers?  Maybe SS?  Along with his decent CS%, he has a nice clip of errors, 9 for the season.  Oh, and that tied for league lead for errors by a catcher.  Yep, those offensive numbers sure are nice....

Dude.  You wanted to know why he got paid a lot of money.  It's because he hits more home runs than most catchers.  So far as catchers go, he hits well.  Hitters get paid.
Boom!

Yeah,  21 bombs will get a little money for a catcher.  And at least the since for a one year deal.
