Tejada has requested the Orioles deal him:  The Link
I believe he'd be a great fit for this team, he's cheaper than Furcal and the Astros have the necessary talent to give for him.

I bet Lidge and Everett would get the job done. 12 mill a year is a bargain at this point for an All Star SS.

Biggio
Willy T
Berkman
Tejada
Ensberg
Lane
LF
C

Hell - if we pick up a good LF or Luke Scott/Burke come on strong, we could have one of the best offenses in the league.

All of this is, of course, hypothetical. 12 mill is still 12 mill.

Getting Tejada would be quite a coup.  I'd be all for it.  Their asking price is bound to be high, though.  How's his D?  I know his bat is huge, but I've read too many threads here about AE's awesome glove and what it means for us.

I still haven't given up on the Abreau deal working out.  The Dunn thing is probably done, at least for now.  I haven't abandoned hope of the 'Stros getting a blockbuster.  Yet.

The Link

Quote:

While Tejada generated 24 errors in 2004, he still is considered one of the American League's top shortstops. His range is among the best in the league, especially going into the hole. Tejada has a plus arm and can make all the required throws. He's adept at turning the double play, recording a league-leading 118 at short last season.

Also - in case you were wondering how good he would fit in Houston:

Quote:

Tejada generates his home-run power to left and left-center field. His doubles power ranges from foul line to foul line. Tejada's swing is more compact that it used to be, yet he struggles with soft-tossers. Finesse pitchers are able to keep him off stride and reduce his power. His slight uppercut swing allows groundball pitchers to keep the ball in the park and have success against him. Tejada remains one of the better hitters in the American League with runners in scoring position. He's more productive batting fourth than in the No. 3 spot.

Normally, I would scoff at this idea. I love AE, and I wouldn't like to lose him. Plus, Tejada has a big contract that would be hard to swallow.

But I LOVE Miguel Tejada! You could even say it borders on a man-crush. I would love to see him in blood and mud. From most accounts, he's a great player on both sides of the ball, a good teammate, and good in the community. I've loosely followed his career since he came into the league, and he's become one of my favorite non-Astros. I don't know if the Astros have any interest in him, but I hope they do.

Edit: The media seems to be pegging Boston as the most likely place for Tejada to go because of the void they have at SS and the fact they are Boston, but I'd be surprised to see the Orioles trade him within the division.

This looks like speculation on the blog writers part, not an insight into any Astros moves.  The Red Sox, and their apparently minor league quality infield, are heavy in the shortstop market.  They were looking at Lugo but the domestic violence problem may have scuppered the deal, or he could have been torpedoed by an Astros' "insider".

"It's just as well the Red Sox didn't get Lugo."

"That's a bad deal," an Astros insider said. "Wait until you see him try to play shortstop under the pressure in Boston. He couldn't do it in Houston in the playoffs, and it's like that every day in Boston."

When did Chron hacks become "insiders"?
