Guess the Line-Up
« on: December 01, 2005, 12:30:28 pm »
Another thread questions what moves Purpura might make and where he has room to make them.  I assume, barring a very surprising signing or trade, that the following position players have starting jobs next year:

C -- Ausmus (if he re-signs, obviously)
2B -- Biggio
3B -- Ensberg
SS -- Everett
?? -- Berkman
CF -- Taveras
RF -- Lane

So that leaves one hole to fill. Which of the following do you think it is most likely to be?

(A) Bagwell, who finds he can throw again, at first, with Berkman in left;
(B) Lamb, at first, with Berkman in left;
(C) Burke, in left, with Berkman at first;
(D) Another left fielder, with Berkman at first;
(E) Another first baseman, with Berkman in left;
(F) None of the above;
(G) An assortment of some or all of the above.

My completely ignorant opinion is that it will be a platoon combo of B&C.  I would love for it to end up A, but I just don't have faith (I have hope, but not faith) that Bagwell will be able to throw well enough to play 1B.

And for what it's worth, I was convinced that Kent would not sign with the Astros, Pettitte would not sign with the Astros, Clemens would not come out of retirement, Beltran would not be traded to Houston, Beltran would be traded away from Houston, Beltran would sign with Houston, Clemens would not re-sign last year, and pinch hitting with Vizcaino was the worst decision since Trudy '01.  So, no one should ever listen to me.
Let me explain something to you. Um, I am not "Mr. Lebowski". You're Mr. Lebowski. I'm the Dude. So that's what you call me. You know, that or, uh, His Dudeness, or uh, Duder, or El Duderino if you're not into the whole brevity thing.

Is that like Cherry 2000 starring Melanie Griffith in her break out role?

A freudian slip regarding a third-baseman who hits like a girl.

Actually, it was a Freudian slip regarding a restaurant that serves cheap Shiner and Mexican martinis.  Mmmmm... tequila

My guess is that if A does not happen, you will see a platoon of Scott and Burke in LF, and Berkman at 1B.  But that would be what I would do... more likely will be Lamb occassionally at 1B instead of Scott in LF.  And Berkman bouncing between 1B/LF all season.
