question re: oswalt's comments
« on: October 20, 2005, 11:03:11 am »
he mentions how he was able to go right at hitters with the fastball after the astros got an early lead, and i've heard similar comments like this from pitchers in the past.  my question is, as a pitcher, why wouldn't you always (except in very specific situations that would call for otherwise) go with the approach that is most likely to get the opposing hitters out?  if going right at the hitters with well-placed fastballs is the best approach for roy, then why not use this approach all the time?  it's not like the astros early lead was insurmountable (2-0, 3-0), and so giving up a run is just as big as giving up a run if the team is behind or tied.

I'm thinking high-risk, high-reward.
