Astros acquire Ryan Presley
« on: July 27, 2018, 09:56:25 pm »
There is the pen help but he hasn’t exactly been shutdown. WHIP is 1.36 and ERA over 3.50. Good strikeout numbers though. Hopefully Strom can work some magic.

I read today he is a big spin rate guy.
Often wrong, but never in doubt.

Read that too. When I read that I thought to myself, “Astros will be all over that.”

WHIP is high but I trust Jeff and the staff see something they like.

I read today he is a big spin rate guy.

He has the 2nd highest spin rate on his curve, 7th best on his 4 seamer, and 16th best on his slider.  He’s also controllable through next year with a 13.0 K per 9 rate this year.

Alcala and Celestino to the Twins in return.

I believe there ought to be a constitutional amendment outlawing AstroTurf and the designated hitter. I believe in the sweet spot, soft-core pornography, opening your presents Christmas morning rather than Christmas Eve and I believe in long, slow, deep, torture of Bud Selig.

I would really like the bus riders to weigh in with their opinion about this trade.

I'm surprised it cost us our #10 prospect (if I've got that right) plus another, given the relative pittance given up by other teams for other relievers. But I don't know anything, so I'd probably be surprised by almost anything.

#10 and #15 prospects according to Twitter.  Looks like a good get, though.

Two more guys who weren’t going to be a part of the current run.  Alcala has a big arm but he’s not irreplaceable.  Celestino had a very long way to go to make the majors.

Besides, this is precisely why you have a deep farm system.

Luhnow would not have given them up if he saw them as real parts of the current run.  There's plenty of talent remaining.  I really think he's trying to maximize the team this season and next while he has Verlander and Cole.

As he should.  Pressly is a really good fit with the Astros philosophy.

Late on the draw, but I’ll weigh in anyway. Alcala is really talented, and I have not seen him pitch, but I got the feeling that he was not as dominant this year as expected. 2021 ML debut seems right, but not guaranteed. Celestine is fast and a good defender but as mentioned earlier, a very long way from ML ready. Alcala seems more replaceable with current talent in the system, but plenty of time to draft/develop additional OF help.

We may regret one or both in a few years but in the “now” this looks like a good trade for the good guys.

So who goes, to make room? Cionel Perez optioned? Harris DFA?

Perez has been optioned to AAA.

Thanks. I figured that would be the move, even though it throws off the L/R balance again. Have to think Harris is on the hot seat, though.

This is the move which made sense, and he got his feet wet in the bigs.

Harris and now Devo are major concerns, and Sipp has regressed.

We need more offense.

This is a crippled team at the moment.

Agree with all of that Jim. There are some serious questions right now which are magnified with Altuve and Correa out of the lineup. Definitely concerned at the moment.

That's a good way to describe it.

The bullpen continues to worry me.   It was lights out in the first half last year,  but hasn't been firing on all cylinders since.

Hopefully Pressly will perform well,  but currently Harris, Devo, and Peacock are under-performing.
